This week, during National EMS Week, we want to recognize and thank the incredible men and women of our ambulance service who answer the call day and night for our community.

In a small town, EMS is more than a job — it’s neighbors helping neighbors, friends helping friends, and dedicated professionals stepping up during people’s hardest moments. Your compassion, sacrifice, teamwork, and commitment do not go unnoticed.

Thank you for the long hours, missed holidays, sleepless nights, and unwavering dedication to keeping our community safe. We are proud of each and every one of you.

Please join us in thanking our EMS crew for all they do — not just this week, but every single day.

*Not all members could make it for the pictures, we thank you all as well!*

On Thursday 04/23 at approximately 11:50 AM Turner County Emergency Management received a phone call that a gas line had been hit at Full Circle RNG (Renewable Natural Gas) owned by Chevron operated by NAES.

Emergency Management was notified that the gas line was located about 10ft above ground and would need to be capped with a plug. The initial call information would require 2 firefighters in air-packs to climb an A frame ladder to plug a 2” line while 2 firefighter’s in air-packs staged as the RIT team. Emergency Management then notified Hurley Fire Chief of the situation.

Due to the time of day the decision was made to page both Hurley Fire Department and Parker Fire Department for personnel in air-packs. Units responded to the scene non-emergent and waited near the property to be met by Safety Solutions from Sioux Falls.

When Safety Solutions arrived on scene it was decided to dispatch Hurley Ambulance to stage on scene. Units then proceeded to the incident location. When units arrived at the incident location it was determined that the gas line break was approximately 30ft in the air. Crews discussed the situation with Safety Solutions and determined it was safest to dispatch Lennox Fire for their ladder truck.

Lennox Fire arrived on scene and utilized their ladder truck to raise firefighters to the broken pipe. Firefighters were successfully able to cap the 2”line.

Responding Units included:
Turner County Emergency Management
Turner County Sheriff’s Office
Hurley Fire and Ambulance- 4 personal- 1 fire apparatus and 1 ambulance
Parker Fire- 5 personal- 1 fire apparatus
Lennox Fire- 4 personal- 1 fire apparatus

Summer is here! Oh wait, snow is coming ..... Really dry as we all know, so let's pray for that dang snow and hopefully some rain as well to give us the moisture we need. We're in a burn ban and under very high fire danger, so please stay safe and be smart!🌞🌨️💦🙏

On this St Patricks day, a tip of the cap to our Irish friends, who were the overwhelming majority of the firefighters here in the early stages of the U.S.A., following The Great Famine.
Known as "Fir Na Tine", Gaelic for "Men Of Fire", these men were fundamental to our modern fire departments, and we've kept many of their traditions, including bagpipes at funerals.
So whether you celebrate with a pint or two, corned beef and cabbage, or perhaps a wee bit of both - knock together glasses for the firefighters, Irish & otherwise, both past and present. As always, stay safe and be smart! 🍀🚒
