🌀 Tropics Are Active — But No Need to Batten Down the Hatches Yet!

The Atlantic is getting a little busier, with multiple areas currently being monitored by the National Hurricane Center.

One tropical wave in the Central Tropical Atlantic (AL92) has an 80% chance of development, while another wave in the Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL94) has a 50% chance of development over the next 7 days.

⚠️ What does this mean for Huntsville and East Texas?

Right now — not much. These systems are a long way from us, and it is far too early to know whether either will develop into something that could eventually affect Texas.

However, hurricane season is a good reminder that it is never too early to prepare.

Take a few minutes to:
• Check your generator and fuel supply
• Review your family emergency plan
• Restock batteries, flashlights, and basic supplies
• Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts
• Take care of that dead or questionable tree you’ve been meaning to remove — it’s much easier to deal with it in the yard than in the living room. 🌳🏠

We’ll continue watching the tropics and share updates if anything develops that could become a concern for East Texas.

Until then, no need to batten down the hatches — just stay prepared.

🌀 Hurricane Season Update

The latest 2026 Atlantic hurricane outlook has been lowered slightly, continuing to favor a below-average hurricane season.

That’s certainly good news—but remember: it only takes ONE storm impacting our area to make it a bad hurricane season.

🌊 Gulf waters will continue to warm as we move through August, and we’re entering the heart of hurricane season. Now is the time to make sure you’re prepared—not when a storm is already in the Gulf.

A few things you can do now:

* ⚡ Check your generator — start it, test it under load, and make sure you have the proper fuel and extension cords.
* 🔦 Check emergency supplies — flashlights, batteries, medications, first-aid supplies, and enough food and water for several days.
* 📱 Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and keep phones/power banks charged.
* ⛽ Don’t wait until the last minute to think about fuel, prescriptions, pets, or other family needs.
* 🌳 Take a look around your property for limbs or loose outdoor items that could become a problem in high winds.

A quieter forecast doesn’t mean no risk. Be prepared now so you’re not scrambling later.

⚠️ Tropical Storm Bertha & Extreme Heat Update ☀️🌴

While Tropical Storm Bertha continues moving west along the Gulf Coast, the latest forecasts indicate little impact is expected for the Huntsville area. We may see a few brief thunderstorms, occasional gusty winds, and perhaps a welcome shower or two, but significant impacts are not anticipated at this time.

The greatest threat today isn't the tropical storm—it's the dangerous heat.

🥵 Extreme Heat Warning

Heat index values up to 116°F
Limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the afternoon.
Drink plenty of water—even if you don't feel thirsty.
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and those without reliable air conditioning.

We'll continue to monitor Tropical Storm Bertha and provide updates if conditions change. Until then, don't let the storm distract you from the real hazard today.

Stay weather aware, stay hydrated, and stay safe. 🚒💙

Today, members of the Huntsville Fire Department had a great time visiting **Chick-fil-A's Toddler Time**! 🚒🐾

Our crew enjoyed spending the morning meeting families, talking with little ones about fire safety, and, of course, bringing Sparky along to help make the visit even more memorable. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community, answer questions, and share plenty of smiles.

A big thank you to Chick-fil-A of Huntsville for inviting us and to everyone who stopped by to visit with our firefighters and Sparky. We always appreciate opportunities to build relationships with the families we serve!

We look forward to seeing you at the next community event!
