Strengthening Communication and Transparency in Law Enforcement

Last week, we were proud to host 52 participants for our Public Information Officer Course, led by Chief Chris Cook of the White Settlement Police Department.

Chief Cook brought exceptional insight and real-world expertise to the classroom—sharing best practices, communication strategies, and the legislative requirements outlined in Texas House Bill 33 (Uvalde Strong Act) as they apply to the role of public information officers.

His practical approach and deep understanding of the evolving landscape of public communication helped participants navigate complex scenarios with confidence and professionalism.

We’re grateful to Chief Cook for his continued partnership and commitment to advancing the profession through meaningful, experience-based instruction.

✨ Leadership is about more than training in the classroom — it’s about building relationships that strengthen our profession.

This week, LEMIT Associate Director, Scott McCollum, MJur had the privilege of presenting Chief Claudine O’Carroll of the South Padre Island Police Department with a token of appreciation on behalf of the Texas Police Chief Leadership Series (TPCLS).

Chief O’Carroll and her department went above and beyond last May in coordinating an outstanding social event for TPCLS in South Padre. Their efforts brought together chiefs from across Texas in a way that fostered connection, collaboration, and community.

We are grateful for the South Padre Island PD team’s partnership and commitment to advancing leadership in policing. Strong leaders create stronger communities — and Chief O’Carroll continues to exemplify that every day.
