* National Center for Biotechnology Information affirms that it is important to address the nutritional needs of seniors and to enable them to live independently in the community. We agree that participation in congregate meal programs improves daily nutrient intake, nutrition status, social interactions, and functionality in older adults. The Senior Center offers nutrition programs at eight sites around Madison County. Other signature programs include:
• Meals on Wheels provides an average of 62,500 meals annually. This need-based program saves taxpayers over $8,750,000 yearly.
• Center for Adult Day Care (CADC) serves adults age 18+ who are physically and or mentally disabled to the extent that they cannot be left alone during the day. Since 1981, this program has enabled family members to work while knowing their disabled loved ones are well cared for. We provide fun and challenging activities, as well as food, snacks, and caring supervision in a safe environment.
• Our Fitness Program includes a wide variety of exercise programs designed to both maintain and improve fitness and overall health. It includes line dancing, yoga, balance, ballroom dancing, tai chi, and also our workout room with equipment specifically designed for seniors.
• STUDIO 60 Travel offers group travel opportunities for those 18 and older as part of STUDIO 60 Senior Center.
• Homemaker Services for Seniors who cannot perform some basic daily living activities but still are able to live independently in their own homes.
• The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) serves as a clearing house, matching volunteers age 60+ to community non-profits in need of service. RSVP provides a way for seniors to use their life experience and skills to answer the call of neighbors in need. Volunteers can invest from a couple of hours to 40 hours per week to help fill critical needs in 104 schools and non-profits. The local RSVP was one of 11 original national projects founded as part of the Points of Light Foundation initiative. A 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, STUDIO 60 Senior Center programs depend upon donations and support from the community, as well as grants from TARCOG and area government councils. 98% of our classes are led by volunteers.
