This morning FF/Medic R. Weikart and FF/EMTB A. Hiedel had the opportunity to spend time with students at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center to talk about the many career opportunities available in the Fire & EMS service.

Our discussion went beyond simply being a firefighter or EMT. Students learned about the wide variety of career pathways, certifications, and opportunities available in the public safety field, including Firefighter, EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, Fire/EMS Instructor, Technical Rescue, HazMat, Fire Investigation, Emergency Management, and other specialized areas.

We also discussed the benefits of getting involved as a volunteer firefighter or EMS provider, including gaining valuable experience, serving your community, developing leadership skills, and building a foundation for a future career in public safety.

As an added bonus the students were able to see and use some of the equipment they will find on an ambulance.

A career in Fire & EMS can take you in many different directions and it all starts with taking that first step.

NEVER FORGET | SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Today, we pause to remember the events of September 11, 2001, and the nearly 3,000 innocent lives that were taken that day.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, military personnel, and countless civilians who demonstrated extraordinary courage and selflessness in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

343 firefighters. 23 NYPD officers. 37 Port Authority officers. 8 EMS.
They answered the call and many made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, we honor those who were lost, those who responded, those who survived, and the families and communities forever changed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Today 8/31/2026 at 0742 hrs we were paged reference a MVA with injuries and possible entrapment at US 33 & Findlay St. OSP, LCSO, Engine 52, Medic 52, and Utility 51 responded. While enroute, BFD and ILEMS were added for additional medics. Upon arrival, E52 and U51 secured vehicles. M52 transported one to LMH ER as a trauma alert. M183 transported one to LMH ER as a trauma alert. M21 obtained one patient refusal. Shafer’s Towing and Hogan’s Towing secured vehicles. Once the roadway was cleared all units went into service and returned to quarters.

Today we were able to attend a valuable training session presented by Bad Day Training focused on modern-day decontamination (Decon) operations.

The training covered current decontamination practices, techniques, and considerations for effectively protecting responders, patients, and the community during hazardous material incidents.

We appreciate Bad Day Training for bringing quality, real-world instruction to our members and helping us continue to improve our readiness and capabilities.
