At 0814 hrs this morning 6/7/2026, we were paged for a single vehicle MVA w/ injuries in the 8300 block of SR 117 with RTVFD and BMRT. Medic 51, Engine 11, Squad 11, Rescue 11, and OSP responded. Upon arrival, Medic 51 established command with a single vehicle on its side with two patients, one still entrapped, patient care started inside the vehicle. Medflight requested due to a prolonged extrication. Squad 11 arrived on scene and took over patient care on the non-trapped patient. Engine 11 arrived and stabilized the car, then started removing the windshield and the front of the roof on the vehicle. Squad 11 transported one to Lima Memorial ER. MedFlight landed and once the patient was extricated from the vehicle, patient was transported by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center.

One of the most common things bystanders want to do after a motor vehicle accident is help the injured person out of the vehicle. While the intention is good, moving an injured patient without proper training can often do more harm than good.

Following a crash, injuries to the neck, back, spine, pelvis, or other critical areas may not be immediately obvious. Improper movement can worsen these injuries and potentially lead to permanent disability or worsen life threatening complications.

Our firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedics are trained to assess the scene, stabilize patients, and safely remove them from vehicles when necessary. We utilize specialized equipment and techniques designed to protect the patient from further injury during the extrication process.

There are situations where immediate removal may be necessary, such as a vehicle fire, hazardous materials, or other imminent dangers. However, if there is no immediate threat, the safest place for an injured occupant is often exactly where they are until trained responders can evaluate them.

We are proud to announce the addition of a new HeroVent transport ventilator to our emergency response capabilities.

This important piece of equipment was made possible through community donations made to the Huntsville Firemen’s Club. Their commitment to public safety has allowed us to acquire advanced life-support equipment that will directly benefit the citizens and visitors we serve.

The HeroVent provides critical respiratory support for patients experiencing severe medical emergencies, allowing our providers to deliver a higher level of care during transport and improving patient outcomes when every second counts that includes Ventilator support, BIPAP, and CPAP. We have worked with our medical director Dr. Bookens, EMS Coordinator Doug LaRue and Lima Memorial Hospital to implement the protocols for this equipment.

In the coming weeks, our members will conduct inservice training as well as a in depth class based around the care this equipment lets us provide.
