As we head into summer, the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is reminding drivers to slow down, follow traffic laws, and help keep our roads safe for everyone. HPD will increase enforcement and expand public education efforts through Friday, July 31, with a focus on reducing speeding and reckless driving during the busy summer season. 🚗☀️

How you can help keep Huntsville’s roads safe this summer:
• Obey posted speed limits
• Eliminate distractions while driving
• Allow extra travel time instead of rushing
• Watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and children in neighborhoods
• Buckle up and make sure all passengers are wearing seat belts

Drive with care and enjoy the summer!

During the May 14 City Council meeting, two resolutions were approved to rename a downtown street and dog park in honor of the life and legacy of legendary blues musician “Microwave” Dave Gallaher.

Council Member Bill Kling, along with Council Member David Little and Council President Jennie Robinson, attended a celebration at the Von Braun Center this past Sunday in remembrance of Microwave Dave. During the event, where friends, family, and fans gathered, Council had the honor of presenting a commemorative street sign, which matches the one now installed on a portion of Cleveland Avenue, and an official resolution to Gallaher’s family.

These renamings recognize Microwave Dave’s profound impact as a musician, educator, and advocate for the arts in Huntsville and beyond.
