The Madison County Water Department is charged with providing its customers with safe, clean water and treatment. We strive to provide safe and vital water throughout the County for our customers at the lowest cost as well as provide an adequate water supply for fire protection, emergency and first responders, and even recreational use. We will ada
pt to meet the needs of a changing community by providing a working environment that promotes high standards and quality services, exceeding customer expectations. The Madison County Water Department consists of 53 employees and 26 State Certified Water Treatment Operators. The Madison County Water Department is a municipally owned and operated water utility serving approximately 28,500 residents in Madison County with a service area of 389 square miles. We have 966 miles of water mains in service, 11 water storage tanks with a storage capacity of 16,000,000 gallons, with groundwater as the primary water source. The Department operates as a utility agency in Madison County and is governed and directed by the Madison County Commission:

The administrative office of the Madison County Water Department is located at 266-B Shields Road, Huntsville, AL 35811. The office hours are 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. The administrative office employs approximately 9 employees and is responsible for overseeing all operational procedures of the system ranging from finance to public relations. Issues of employment to customer relations are addressed within this department. The field services office of the Madison County Water Department is located at 107-B Wholesale Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35811. The field services office employs approximately 35 employees and is responsible for overseeing all procedures of the water system ranging from meter and water main installation and maintenance to purchasing and inventory. The field services office houses all equipment needed to maintain the 389 square miles of water service area and the crews are dispatched from this location to maintain and repair all water mains, service line leaks and fire hydrants in the system. The Mountain Fork Treatment Plant of the Madison County Water Department is located at 845 Mountain Fork Road, New Market, AL 35761. The treatment plant office employs approximately 9 employees and is responsible for testing and overseeing the process and treatment of the wells and water system to ensure we provide safe drinking water for our customers.
