On the morning of January 15th the HH EMS (HEMSI) family learned of the unexpected passing of long-time employee Anthony (Tony) Ceci. Tony had been a Paramedic with HEMSI for over 35 years, most recently working at our facility supporting the Marshall Space Flight Center as both a Paramedic and manager of their AED Program for the last 10 years. Tony earned the prestigious Silver Snoopy Award for his work supporting the space flight program.

Tony began his journey in EMS as a member of the Huntsville - Madison County Rescue Squad before joining the HEMSI family. Tony also served as a CIty Councilman for his community of Owens Cross Roads.

We will update with any more information we receive regarding arrangements. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this loss.

We could not be more proud of the time and service Cindy has given to our organization. She leaves behind a legacy of passion and caring as well as some big shoes to fill. To say she will be missed is an understatement that we will feel daily. We congratulate you on your new journey!

On a personal note, I will miss my friend being there on a daily basis and sharing some good German treats.

Celebrating Tyler Gibson's Journey with HEMSI!

We're thrilled to highlight the incredible journey of Tyler Gibson, a dedicated member of Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (HEMSI). Tyler's story is a testament to determination, hard work, and the amazing opportunities available at HEMSI.

Tyler began his journey with us in the Spring of 2022 when he applied for the EMS Academy. This unique program allows individuals to attend the EMT course while being paid. Tyler completed the rigorous 11-week program and, upon graduation and licensure, started his career as an EMT.

Tyler didn't stop there. He took advantage of our workforce development program which helped him fund his Advanced EMT course at Calhoun Community College. Tyler set his sights even higher after passing his certification exam and obtaining his AEMT licensure. He enrolled in the Paramedic program at Calhoun Community College.

Now, after over two years of relentless dedication, Tyler not only graduated from the Paramedic program and passed his certification exam, but he is proudly serving as a Paramedic at HEMSI. We couldn't be prouder of his achievements and the inspiration he brings to our team.

This weekend we saw the end of an era within our agency. We celebrate the retirement of Paramedic Field Supervisor Jim Barnette as he completed his final shift this weekend. Jim has served this community for 25+ years and he takes with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. He leaves some big shoes to fill, for certain. Jim (on the right) was presented with this shadow box by HEMSI President Jon Howell at his retirement celebration. Many friends and employees were on hand to wish him well, share memories, hugs and a few tears.
