We found Scholar Brittney Y. at the The Catalyst Center for Business & Entrepreneurship's Conversations with AL SBA Award Winners, celebrating CEO Lang Sims of Seabrook Solutions. Lang was named Alabama Small Business Person of the Year!

On Tuesday, our Executive Director Jennifer Linton had the distinct pleasure of honoring the accomplishments of Scholar Sonia J., who is graduating from this spring with her Associates in Registered Nursing.

Sonia spent years as a dedicated CNA and now embraces her future as an RN. We are thrilled to celebrate her nursing school graduation and look forward to cheering her on as she brings her years of experience to this next professional chapter!

Some connections are just meant to be!

When Kim signed up to be a mentor with the WEDC Foundation, she knew sheโ€™d be helping a scholar navigate her professional journey. What she didnโ€™t know was that they would eventually become sisters!

We excited to share that Makahla recently joined the Gamma Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., making her and Kim "Sorors." ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’š

As Kim puts it: "I couldn't be more proud of her...Makahla definitely makes mentorship easy." This is what we mean when we talk about the power of the WEDC Foundation community- itโ€™s not just about the years committed to undergrad, itโ€™s about the lifelong bonds formed along the way.

It was a pleasure to run into one of our outstanding Scholars, Somer, at 's Earth Day event at Hays Nature Preserve this past weekend! ๐ŸŒฟ

Somer was on-site volunteering with her sorority dedicating time to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

We strive to support Scholars who are not only academically driven but embody the spirit of service. Seeing our Scholars out and about contributing to our community is a great reminder of why we do what we do.

The WEDC Foundation Scholar Program is accepting applications through April!

This scholarship is for women living, working, or studying in Limestone, Madison, Marshall, or Morgan counties in North Alabama.

Applications for the 2026 scholarship can be submitted online from January through April 30th.

The program supports womenโ€™s educational goals by providing financial assistance.

We are bursting with pride for WEDCF Scholar Makahla Riley! A senior Business Management major at , Makahla is the true definition of perseverance.

Not only does she maintain a stellar 4.0 GPA, but she was also honored with the prestigious Margie Malone Tuckson Scholarship. Makahla will deliver a student testimonial during the AAMU Black Tie Scholarship Gala on April 17 in front of a crowd of over 1000 alumni, corporate partners and community leaders.

From transitioning from community college to leading as a University Echo ambassador, Makahlaโ€™s journey shows us what happens when you have the courage to step outside your comfort zone.

As Makahla says: โ€œAll of those experiences have taught me to be bold.โ€
