Madison County Soil & Water Conservation District

Madison County Soil & Water Conservation District Working to conserve our natural resources so future generations can enjoy the same Madison County. Join us to Conserve Alabama!

For nearly 70 years, Madison County Conservation District has committed to conserving Madison County's natural resources by connecting those who use and work the land to the education, technical know-how, and resources they need. This Stewardship revived the landscape from devastation of the 1930's and continues to improve quality of life for Alabama citizens. The Madison County Conservation Distr

ict is part of a statewide movement in the conservation of Alabama's natural resources: Conserve Alabama. Conserve Alabama is an initiative of the State of Alabama Soil & Water Conservation Committee to re-energize and unite stakeholders in the effort to be goo stewards of our land and water. With a growing population and increased demand of resources in the 21st Century, it's more important than ever that we use our resources wisely.

📚Ag Learning Station📚

St. Mark Child Development Center Huntsville received their very own bookshelf filled with accurate conservation and agriculture books! 📚🌱

These books introduce students to topics like pollinators, gardening, farming, soil health, water cycles, and so much more. We are proud to continue planting the seeds of agricultural literacy and helping young minds grow through hands-on learning and reading opportunities.

This bookshelf marks the 55th bookshelf placed throughout our county!

Thank you to our NRCS District Conservationist, Cedric Williams, for tagging along and reading “Right This Very Minute”.
The story follows the journey of food from farms to tables, highlighting farmers, truck drivers, bakers, fishermen, grocery workers, and many others. It helps children understand how connected agriculture is to everyday life and teaches appreciation for the people who help provide our food “right this very minute.” 🚜

🌱💧Another garden growing strong!🪴

Madison County SWCD is excited to install an indoor hydroponics garden at James I. Dawson Elementary School — our 4th school garden this year and the final installation before summer break! These hands-on systems help students explore science, agriculture, and healthy growing right in the classroom. 📚🥬

🌱Had a wonderful time returning to Studio 60 Senior Center Adult Daycare to judge the soil babies everyone created a few weeks ago! Commissioner Craig Hill joined us for the judging, and we were so impressed with all the creativity and hard work.

Everyone went home a winner with medals, smiles, and lots of pride in their creations. Thank you to everyone at Studio 60 for another fun and memorable day!

💧The 2026 Madison County Water Festival was a great success!💧

Madison County SWCD was proud to help host two exciting days of environmental education for over 1700 Madison County 4th graders. Students learned about water conservation, natural resources, and the importance of protecting our environment through hands-on activities and demonstrations.

We appreciate all of the volunteers, educators, sponsors, and partner organizations who helped make this year’s festival possible. Events like these help inspire the next generation to become good stewards of our natural resources! 🌎💦

We recently placed another indoor hydroponics garden at New Century Technology High School. 🌱

Ms. King plans to have students experiment with plant growth and genetics in a hands-on, controlled environment, bringing science to life in a whole new way. We’re excited to see what they discover.

A special thanks to Mrs. Evans for being so instrumental in helping us with this project!

🌎EARTH DAY🌎

We had the pleasure of visiting Studio 60 Senior Center and “playing in the dirt” with the adult daycare attendees. We had so much fun making soil babies and giving them names! 🪴

We will return in a few weeks to check in on their progress. Today was a great day with even greater students!☺️💚
