Last night, members of the Walker County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) had their monthly meeting where they participated in a hands-on exercise focused on developing an Incident Action Plan (IAP).

An IAP is a key tool used during emergency incidents to outline incident objectives, operational priorities, assignments, and communication plans, helping ensure everyone is working together safely and effectively.

Exercises like this help strengthen our CERT team’s understanding of emergency operations, improve coordination, and build confidence in responding to real-world incidents within our community.

Expect high winds and hail.

At 833 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 10 miles east of Bedias, or 14 miles west of Huntsville, moving north at 15 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. This severe thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of northeastern Grimes, southeastern Madison and west central Walker Counties.

* Until 800 PM CDT.

* At 729 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles north of
Montgomery, or 12 miles northwest of Willis, and is nearly
stationary.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
Huntsville, New Waverly, Huntsville State Park, and Richards.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning
are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is
one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder,
you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

If on or near Lake Conroe, get away from the water and move indoors
or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles
from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not
be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
