REMEMBERING PEARL HARBOR | 80TH ANNIVERSARY

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, December 7, 1941. We honor all service members present during the attack and remember those who lost their lives on that fateful day. The surprise raid damaged or destroyed 21 American ships and more than 300 aircraft. 2,403 men, women, and children died, and another 1,100 were wounded.

Following the attack, President Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke to Congress, asking for a declaration of war, delivering a compelling speech that would inspire the nation in its darkest hour. Opening with, "Yesterday, December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." Roosevelt's words were followed by a near-unanimous vote that hurled the United States into war against Japan.

On this historic anniversary, we pay our respects to those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor and pledge to never forget their service and sacrifice.

🔱 In one of the most famous photographs from the war in Iraq and still holding his 9mm Beretta, a seriously injured 1st Sgt. Brad Kasal is carried from the “Hell House” by Lcpl Chris Marquez and Lcpl Dane Shaffer on November 13, 2004.

1st Sgt. Kasal lost much of his blood and nearly lost his right leg after being shot seven times by insurgents. His body was peppered with shrapnel as he used his body to shield an injured younger Marine, PFC Alex Nicoll, from a gr***de blast.
