Sometimes they are a forgotten generation. We forget sometimes that our success was built on the backs of the generations before us, and the need is continuing to grow,” Drost said.

We’re excited to welcome UAH Neighborhood Nursing back to the Harrison Center for another semester! Through their partnership with the Harrison Center, Neighborhood Nursing provides our members with opportunities to learn more about their health, participate in preventive screenings, and connect with future nurses from the UAH College of Nursing.

We encourage our members to take advantage of these visits and get involved throughout the semester. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions, learn something new, and take an active role in your health. We’re happy to have the UAH Neighborhood Nursing team back with us!

Congratulations to Jason Andra and his team at The People’s Patch Community Farm on winning the Efficiency and Innovation in County Government Award presented by the Association of County Commissions of Alabama.

Under Andra’s leadership, the Patch not only offers vegetables but has also added fruit trees, walking trails, and an outdoor classroom. When walking the trail, don’t be surprised by the goat and sheep along the path being raised in partnership with the Alabama Cooperative Extension for research.

The Madison County Commission developed the People’s Patch community farm initiative in partnership with Alabama A&M University. It was created to address food insecurity in North Huntsville, where many residents lacked consistent access to fresh, healthy food. It has a direct, immediate impact on students, university research, surrounding neighborhoods, the environment, seniors, youth, and all ages in between.

A big thank you to everyone who joined and walked with us! We’re always happy to see our Harrison Center family out in the community and representing us with such great spirit.

Here’s to a wonderful school year ahead for our students, families, and educators!
