Happy Independence Day! Be sure, to stay safe while partaking in Independence Day festivities. Here is some advice on the festitvities tonight!

- Do not light fireworks near people or flamable material. Fire works can cause serious injuries or fires.
- When a firework malfunctions avoid attempting to relight it, as it may cause injuries.
- Do not hold lit fireworks.
- Be sure to properly dispose of used fireworks, this includes soaking them in water.

Sharing an update from the Madison, Alabama Police Department regarding the recent sightings of 🐊alligators🐊 on Ziedrt Road.

If an alligator comes on your property and you need someone to remove it, please do not call 9-1-1. You can reach the Alabama Fish and Game by calling (256) 353-2634 or 1-800-272-4263.

Remember, only call 9-1-1 in an emergency, serious medical problem, any type of fire, any life-threatening situation, or to report crimes in progress.

Due to the recent sighting of alligators around Lady Ann Lake off of Ziedrt Rd. the Madison Police Department has been in contact with Alabama Fish and Game. It is important for Madison residents to know the American Alligator is a Federally Protected Animal. This means you cannot trap or kill these animals. The Alabama Department of Fish and Game is aware of the alligators and monitors them. Please watch your children and pets during any activities around the lake. If an alligator comes on your property and you need someone to remove it please contact Alabama Fish and Game at 256-353-2634 (normal business hours) or 1 800-272-4263 (after business hours).

Salary: $17.94 per hour – (plus, $1.25 differential)

The Huntsville-Madison County 9-1-1 Center is seeking qualified individuals to join our team of dedicated 9-1-1 Calltakers. We need responsible and motivated people that have a passion to help others. This exciting career field will provide you this opportunity and will allow you to help others far beyond what most people will ever experience. As a 9-1-1 Calltaker you will answer 9-1-1 emergency calls and process or reroute them as needed. You will follow a set of protocols that includes a computerized protocol system that will guide you step-by-step through the appropriate information gathering and life-saving questions to ask the caller. You will also use location and mapping systems to help you locate the 9-1-1 caller. You will accomplish all of this and more while working in a new state-of-the-art 9-1-1 building with cutting-edge 9-1-1 technology.

You will receive 12 weeks of training that consists of class room and on-the-job training. You will be assigned a mentor who will guide you and teach you the intricate components of 9-1-1calltaking, to include techniques to properly communicate with 9-1-1 callers during highly emotional and stressful emergencies.

Required Qualifications:

• Pass a thorough background check and polygraph test
• Pass a physical examination and a pre-employment drug screening
