Check out this wonderful new addition that was added. Thanks to a partnership with the The Junior League of Huntington, United Way of the River Cities’ Project Period, and the Cabell County Public Library, women and young ladies can receive free menstrual and hygiene products at any time. The pantry is Huntington’s first outdoor accessible period pantry.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Because of their courage and selflessness, we are able to enjoy the freedoms we hold dear every day. 🇺🇸

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the families and loved ones who carry that sacrifice with them each day, as well as to the veterans and active service members who have answered the call to serve. Your courage, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we gather with friends and family this Memorial Day, may we also pause to reflect on the true meaning of the day and remember those who gave everything for our nation.

Please note that the library is closed today; however, our online catalog remains available 24/7. We invite you to explore our extensive collection of military history, stories of veterans and local heroes, and books that help preserve and honor the legacy of those who served.

On May 15, 1886, Minnie Buckingham Harper was born in Winfield. She was the first African-American woman to serve as a member of a state legislative body in the United States. She was appointed by Governor Howard Gore on January 10, 1928, to fill the unexpired term of her husband, E. Howard Harper.
