Very promising, but we still have a long way to go in helping remove stigma - addiction affects every family, every community - and too often remains a family and neighborhood secret.
Powerful piece in Newsday highlighting a truth that too many families have carried in silence for far too long: substance use disorder is not a moral failure, and it is not something families should be forced to hide in shame.
The more we talk openly about substance use disorder, the more we break down the walls that keep people from seeking help. Every honest conversation, every story shared and every hand extended can make a difference for someone who is struggling or for a family that feels alone.
Recovery is possible. Support matters. Compassion saves lives. And as stigma continues to fall, more people will have the courage to speak up, get help and know they are not alone.
