From the Mayor's Desk: "Huntington Veterans Day 5K Inc. is a local 501(c)(3) that raises funds for veterans memorials here in Huntington. I’m excited to make sure you know about their current project, which is being installed at Memorial Park near Waltonian Gardens. This replica of the National Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, Va., will be a great addition to our monuments in Memorial Park. We’ll be dedicating the sculpture on November 11 at 11 a.m. and hope you can join us. In the meantime, you and your family can support their efforts to put the finishing touches on this project and support future projects by signing up for their annual 5K."

Well deserved

Dawn Harvey was honored as the Veteran of the Quarter during the Commissioners' meeting today.

Dawn enlisted in the US Army Reserves and graduated on May 17, 1996. She was activated on January 27, 2003 and was sent to San Antonio, Texas as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dawn's awards include: National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (Mobilization), and the Army Service Ribbon.

Dawn has been involved with Tri Kappa Sorority, Rotary International Friendship Exchange Chair, Junior Achievement, Huntington County Robotics Team, Habitat for Humanity Executive Board Treasurer and many other organizations have benefitted from her involvement.

Congratulations, Dawn! We thank you for your service!
