Statement from the Huntington County Democratic Party
June 21, 2025, 9:40pm
We are heartbroken and outraged.
Tonight, we learned that President Donald Trump ordered U.S. strikes on nuclear sites deep inside Iran, a decision that puts American service members in harm’s way, risks igniting a global war, and offers nothing but fear and uncertainty in return.
Let’s be clear: this does not make us safer. It does not help the families in Huntington trying to make ends meet. It does not put food on anyone’s table or bring good-paying jobs to our small towns. It doesn’t support our farmers, our veterans, or our children’s future.
Instead, it sends the message that reckless power games matter more than people.
Instead of using resources to address the needs of working families here at home, Trump is escalating a conflict thousands of miles away and risking the lives of our men and women in uniform. Each bombing mission forces military families to lie awake, fearing for their loved ones, while our neighbors try to scrape together enough to survive.
Donald Trump is dragging America into another war. One that no one asked for, and that will be paid for by working people, not billionaires.
We firmly oppose this decision and everything it stands for. Our troops deserve better. Our people deserve better. America deserves better.
Across the three Abrahamic faiths, scripture speaks with one voice against needless conflict: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9), “Seek peace and pursue it” (Tanakh, Psalm 34:14), and “If they incline to peace, then incline to it also and place your trust in God” (Quran 8:61). Together, these sacred words remind us that true strength is measured not in acts of war, but in our unwavering commitment to peace.
Rooted in that same spirit, and in a community as grounded in faith as Huntington County, we will continue to stand for the kind of leadership that reflects our deepest values, leadership that chooses compassion over conflict, people over power, and peace over provocation.
