Come see Allen Dennard at the Huntington Woods Juneteenth Celebration!
Born and raised in Detroit, trumpeter, composer, and activist Allen Dennard is a premier voice in the city's modern jazz movement. His musical journey began at age nine, later shifting from classical roots to jazz during high school under the mentorship of the legendary Marcus Belgrave. After earning a full scholarship and a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Michigan, Dennard quickly exploded onto the contemporary music scene.
Whether leading the Allen Dennard Trio, Quartet, or Quintet, he delivers an electrifying sound that seamlessly fuses straight-ahead jazz with house, hip-hop, and funk. A staple at iconic venues like Cliff Bell's and the Detroit Jazz Festival, his brilliant craftsmanship shines across three celebrated releases: his debut EP Stepping In, the Detroit Music Award-nominated album Flashback, and his acclaimed 2025 LP Black Valley, released via Motor City Wine.
Dennard’s versatile artistry transcends traditional boundaries. He has shared stages with R&B star K'Jon, toured with rock icons MC5, and laid down trumpet tracks for Alice Cooper’s EP Breadcrumbs. Recently, he took his signature Detroit sound global, touring Japan as a cultural ambassador with the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation's Generations All-Star Group. Armed with a bold sonic vision and relentless energy, Allen Dennard continues to push the boundaries of jazz while honoring the rich heritage of his hometown.
The Huntington Woods Juneteenth Celebration is on June 19th from 4pm-6pm at the Gillham Rec Center! We cannot wait to see you there!
