Keeping Our Youngest Vehicle Passengers Safe!
Ahead of Child Passenger Safety Week—which takes place September 20–26—the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) is reminding parents and caregivers that children are best protected in a crash when they are correctly buckled in the right seat for their age and size.
Unfortunately, research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that 46 percent of car seats are not correctly installed.
Car seats can be confusing, and even the most careful parents, grandparents, and caregivers can make mistakes without realizing it. JOINT AND CRACK SEALING WORK BEGINS THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 14TH

Michigan Joint Sealing will begin joint and crack sealing work throughout the City during the week of September 14th. Crews will start on Coolidge Highway, followed by 11 Mile Road, before proceeding to selected roads throughout the City.

Residents should expect temporary traffic delays and parking restriction in active work areas. Please use caution around crews and follow all posted signs.

The schedule is weather-dependent and may change.

Severe weather has caused multiple trees and power lines to fall across Huntington Woods. If you must drive, please use caution and watch for fallen trees, power lines, or other hazards on the road.
If you encounter a stoplight without power, remember to treat it as a four-way stop.
Know the dangers of downed power lines: Stay at least 25 feet away from a downed power line and make sure that you and your family, pets, and neighbors don’t touch anything it touches – like a fence or a puddle. Be sure to call 9-1-1 if there is an emergency.
Assume all downed power lines are live and dangerous - even if you don’t see sparks, smell smoke, or hear buzzing. Coming in contact with a downed power line, including touching it with an object – like a broom or pole – can result in serious injuries.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, the Detroit Zoological Society will host the annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo event. Participants will compete in a 5K race or take part in a non-competitive Fun Walk. Proceeds support the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care for the animals at the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center.
The 5K race route includes portions of 10 Mile Road, Scotia Road, Huntington Road, Ludlow Avenue and their intersecting roads. The Fun Walk is held entirely on Zoo grounds and will have no impact on the neighborhood roads.
From 7:30 to 9 a.m., Huntington Woods police officers and course marshals will be stationed at several intersections to allow runners to pass safely. Marshals, identifiable by their safety vests, are responsible for directing both vehicles and runners. They will ask drivers to stop briefly when a large group of participants is crossing, but no vehicle should be delayed for more than five minutes.
If you anticipate leaving your home during the race, we encourage you to park outside of the race zone in advance. If that is not possible, please take extra caution when driving. Wait for a natural break in the runners before carefully proceeding to the nearest barricade, where a marshal will assist you in exiting the area. For everyone's safety, please travel only between groups of runners and never attempt to pass them.
The first priority is to keep both residents and participants safe. For everyone's safety, please be attentive and patient when driving and allow a few extra minutes for your morning travel.
