🌙Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation has awarded a $1,000 Moonjumpers-Kenneth A. Christensen Leadership Scholarship to Huntington High School Class of 2025 member Anthony Addeo, who plans to study finance at the University of South Carolina – Columbia.

Founded in 2011, Moonjumpers’ stated mission is “to help children, families, war veterans and charitable and not-for-profit organizations through financial assistance and the purchase of products or equipment for a better quality of life for all.”

Moonjumpers offers as many as three scholarships annually to college/trade school-bound high school seniors based on demonstrated academic standing (GPA of 75-85), financial need, and contributions to the community.

An Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor, Mr. Addeo earned top grades and played on Huntington’s varsity golf and baseball teams. The teenager helped found the high school’s The Blue Market (food pantry) & Blutique (clothing and other personal items), which was established to support Huntington families facing food insecurity and other needs. The goal is to collect and distribute supplies, food and clothing to create a free, comprehensive resource for students.

“The key to my success has been studying hard and always putting maximum effort into my coursework,” Mr. Addeo said. “With the support of my family, friends and teachers, I was able to truly excel in school.”

Mr. Christensen passed away in 2022 after a lifetime of service, beginning with the US Merchant Marine and continuing as a Town of Huntington councilman and member of the Rotary Club, Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce, Huntington Township Housing Coalition, Huntington Environmental and Open Space Advisory Committee and various other local organizations and leagues that advance youth development, community revitalization and civic engagement. He played a key role in the highly regarded Leadership Huntington program.

Huntington Is Open For Business – Huntington BID Spring Clean-Up Day Event

Huntington is embracing its vibrant business community with the "Huntington is Open for Business" Community Clean-Up Day, held on Friday, June 20th, in partnership with the Huntington BID. This initiative brought together various organizations, including Moonjumpers, the Huntington Historical Society, the Townwide Fund of Huntington, the Huntington Chamber, the Town of Huntington, Tri-CYA, Shore Funding Solutions, St. Joseph’s College, National Grid, and PSEGLI, to engage local merchants and enhance the aesthetic appeal of Huntington Village. Activities included litter collection, the installation of new trash can inserts, and sweeping the areas in front of local businesses, all aimed at making Huntington a postcard-worthy destination that encourages shopping local. The event not only promoted a positive image of Huntington as a thriving business hub but also provided valuable recognition for all participants. Additionally, PSEGLI Economic Development took the opportunity to meet with merchants to discuss ways to reduce their electric bills and promote energy efficiency. The day concluded on a high note at Six Harbors Brewery during their Friday Summer Yappy Hour, where all participants enjoyed a well-deserved celebration.

All leftover food went to help support the Tri-CYA food pantry initiatives.
