21900 Pacific Coast Hwy Huntington Beach, CA92646 The Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned native wildlife in Orange County. Our trained volunteers are also on a 24-hour call to respond to petroleum spills involving California wildlife. We are solely funded by generous public donations and with th

is support, we ensure our doors remain open. Capable of rehabilitating over 400 animals at one time, the facility is equipped with animal washing stations, a hospital, indoor and outdoor caging, and food prep area. Though treatment and rehabilitation areas are closed to the general public, tours may be arranged. Please call for details. WWCC HISTORY
In 1990, 400,000 gallons of Alaskan crude oil were spilled off the coast of Huntington Beach, sickening over 1,200 birds. Less than half of the effected bird survived treatment at a makeshift facility. As a result, the Alliance for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education and the Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy began taking steps to provide a permanent facility capable of responding to the wildlife injured in daily encounters with humans and future toxic spills. On March 31, 1998, with the assistance of the California Department of Fish and Game Office of Spill Prevention and Response, Southern California Edison and others, the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center opened in Huntington Beach. The Center has evolved over the years into a sophisticated network of rehabilitation professionals and volunteers. We are proud of the dedicated veterinarians, trained wildlife technicians and certified volunteers who make our success possible. VOLUNTEER/DONATE
The Center is continually expanding to better serve the needs of Orange County and the surrounding areas. Join the effort to coexist with local wildlife. Volunteer or make a donation. Support your wildlife center!

You read that right- we want YOU to come out and join us to cheer on just a few of the many Brown Pelicans we have treated this year due to a starvation event, or what’s called an “Unexplained Mortality Event”. These few are a symbol of strength and resilience not only for their species but for everyone who had a hand in their recovery, including you, our supporters.

We’ll be meeting at Huntington City Beach on Thursday June 11 (this Thursday) at 10am. Just south of the pier at lifeguard tower 3 which is located right by First Street.

It’s free to attend but we appreciate your donations as they allow us to keep fighting to give our native wildlife a second chance at life.

See you there!

With nesting season in full swing and weather getting warmer, it’s important to look out for our wild neighbors when considering springtime landscaping! And of course, if you witness trimming near confirmed active nests report illegal activity to 1-888-334-CALTIP.

We get lots of calls this time of year with complaints that birds have nested in yards and around homes. It’s important to know that it is illegal to move or tamper with active nests under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. We understand this may be inconvenient and postpone some items on your to do list, but remember that it’s only for a season, and for the betterment of our ecosystem.

Happy Volunteer appreciation week! We truly believe that people who spend their free time giving back to those in need are the best of the best. And that is true for our volunteers. Our volunteers are a collection of some of the most dedicated, compassionate, and hardworking people we’ve ever met. All of the animals we have had the honor of caring for over the years could not have gotten their second chances without our volunteers, plain and simple.
Drop a 💚in the comments to show them some love and stay tuned for more as we give thanks to them all week long.
