Did you know that green was a very popular color in the Victorian period, especially among the wealthiest members of society. Unfortunately, it contained an extremely dangerous toxin - arsenic. As you tour the Woods Brown Mansion, you will see many items which boast the popular green pigment. Thankfully, with today's technology, we are able to enjoy the beautiful hue without the dangers that the Victorians faced.

We are excited to announce our 3 movie features for our October Movies at the Mansion. Check out the dates and movies below. Your $15 ticket includes a brief tour of the first floor of the Woods Brown Mansion, movie theatre snacks, and your movie ticket!

October 2 - The Spiral Staircase (1946)
This psychological horror movie takes place in a turn-of-the-century Vermont mansion. Starring Dorothy McGuire, George Brent, and Ethel Barrymore, the film was adapted from a novel titled “Some Must Watch”.

October 16 - Dracula (1931)
What is Halloween without Dracula? This 1931 film is the original film adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”. Set in London in the 1890s, this classic film stars Bela Lugosi, Helen Chandler, and David Manners.

October 30 - Sleepy Hollow (1999)
A more modern film, “Sleepy Hollow” stars Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, and Miranda Richardson. Tim Burton fans, grab your seats to watch Ichabod Crane in our vintage theatre before it's too late!

In honor of Patriots Day, and the 25th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, the Historic Building Preservation Foundation is offering complimentary tours tomorrow for all active-duty military personnel, veterans, first responders, and nurses. We want to thank you for your endless service and selfless sacrifices.

Tours are held at 10 AM and 2 PM tomorrow - September 11,2026. Reservations are recommended but not required. We hope to see you here.

While the Blair Chapel Open House happened over a month ago, the Historic Building Preservation Foundation is still very excited about the Blair Chapel. We are continuing to work to create events and opportunities for the community to connect with the Blair Chapel. The Chapel is rentable for micro-weddings, and will be used by the Foundation to host community events. To rent the venue, reach out to our director at (814) 644-7447.
