Current project is construction of a 2,300 sq. Children's Library. See Additional Info for Donors! The Library, housed in the War Memorial Building and constructed in 1952, is in the heart of downtown of a rural community and is easily accessible by car or by foot. Because most of our patrons are limited in income and education, the library bridges the socioeconomic gap by providing services and r
esources of all types not otherwise available. To these patrons, the library is a place of wonder, enlarging and transforming their world as nothing else can do
The FOUNDATION is dedicated to enlarging and renovating the existing aged facility, regarded as a historical landmark, to enable the growth and enhancement of children and adult programming as well as increase the use by the community at large for meetings and events. The FOUNDATION encourages philanthropic giving for the library to ensure the people of Humboldt and the surrounding area receive the fullest possible measure of library resources and services. The FOUNDATION seeks funds through the generous support of library patrons and other donors, through gifts, bequests, trusts, endowments, grants and other financial support. Donors may have specific ideas about how their gifts should be used. All gifts are subject to review and approval by the Foundation's Board of Directors. The FOUNDATION is independent of the Humboldt Public Library Board of Trustees and the FRIENDS of the Humboldt Library, but its officers may invite a member of each group to join the Foundation Board of Directors in an ex-officio capacity. The library director shall be an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors, advising the FOUNDATION about the library's needs and activities. The Foundation Board of Directors controls its revenue and expenditures, making periodic gifts to the library as needs are identified, requests made, and funds become available. The current FOUNDATION project is the construction of a new 2,300 sq. Children's Library onto the west end of the existing facility. The existing 1,300 sq. Children's Library is insufficient to meet the continued growth of programs and activities for children. The space will be re-purposed and used for children and adult programs and community meetings and events.
