TIFMAS UPDATE: Our crew and ST-191 have been assigned to the Sandy Fire in Kenedy County, TX, about 30 miles NE of Edinburg. TFS reports this fire is currently at 0%–5% containment and over 1,000 acres burning, with possible structures in danger. This will be a long night for our Eastex Fire Department team and ST-191. Our support and prayers are with all first responders across Texas working these wildland incidents.

Tools of the Trade: The Thermal Imager.

Inside a working fire, the smoke gets so thick you can't see your own hand. This camera doesn't need light. It reads heat, so a person on the floor shows up even when the room is completely black. It also finds the fire we can't see yet, the kind sitting inside a wall or above a ceiling, and it tells us whether a room is actually out or just quiet for the moment. One tool, and it shortens a search from minutes to seconds.

Eastex Fire Dept., with ST-191 headed to the Pena Creek Fire in Dimmit County, Texas, just east of Eagle Pass yesterday evening. The crew worked tirelessly all night to help contain the fire with much success. With 100+ degree heat and low chances of rain expected this weekend, we continue to support our team and every brave firefighter working wildland incidents across the state of Texas.

Today, Captain Perales (ENGB), Captain Walters, and Firefighter Ontiveros answered the call through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) and deployed with Strike Team 191 to support the latest wildland fires in Texas. They will join Needham FD, Forest Bend FD, ESD 48, and Galveston FD in the fight to help communities impacted by ongoing fires. We thank them for representing Eastex Fire Department / ESD10 with pride, honor, and professionalism.

This past Saturday, we were honored to celebrate the promotions of some of our members and welcome officially the newest Eastex firefighters to the department. Congratulations to Captain Justin Silas, Captain Jonathan Williams, and Engine Operator Justin Brown on your promotions. Your years of hard work and dedication have paid off, and we are proud to see you grow into these new roles. Congratulations also to Firefighter Samuel Alba, Firefighter Andrew Davis, Firefighter Jacob Dominy, and Firefighter Zach Poe for completing your probationary period and becoming part of the Eastex Fire Department family. Thank you to all who attended, our ESD10 commissioners, fellow firefighters, family, and friends for helping make the event special and memorable. We’re excited for what’s ahead for Eastex Fire Department.

Ride Smart. Ride Safe. 🛴⚡
E-bikes and scooters are everywhere these days, and Eastex Fire Department wants every rider home safe. Here are the basics to follow every time you roll out:

Wear a helmet. Every ride, every time. Head injuries are the leading cause of death in e-bike and scooter crashes.

Be seen. Use lights and reflective gear at night. Drivers can't avoid what they can't see.

Follow traffic laws. Ride with traffic, stop at signs and lights, and use hand signals when turning.

Stick to bike lanes and paths. Avoid busy roads and sidewalks crowded with pedestrians.

Know your speed. E-bikes and scooters can move faster than they feel. Slow down at intersections and around people.

One rider per ride. These aren't built for passengers. Extra weight throws off balance and braking.

Charge it right. Only use the charger that came with your e-bike or scooter, never charge unattended overnight, and keep batteries away from heat.
