📚☀️ Summer Tutoring Opportunity for HCSD Students! ☀️📚

The Hudson Youth Center and Promise Neighborhood are exploring a new Summer Tutoring Program designed to help HCSD students stay engaged, build confidence, and strengthen academic skills throughout the summer.

📅 Dates: July 6 – August 14
⏰ Time: Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
🎓 Geared toward students entering Kindergarten through 5th Grade
📍 Open to HCSD Students

At this time, we are surveying families to gauge interest in the program. Space will be limited, and completing the interest survey will help us determine participation levels and program needs.

If you think your child would benefit from summer academic support, we encourage you to complete the interest survey today!

Interested in supporting our work? Join the team of Community Scientists sampling the water quality at Oakdale Lake this summer.

Join us for a training on June 20th from 10am-Noon at Oakdale Lake, 132 North 6th Street.

Oakdale Lake will be open this weekend! The beach was diligently weeded by volunteers last Sunday and has a beautiful fresh layer of Long Island beach sand. Please come and enjoy!

We'd also like to clarify some recent misunderstandings about the algaecide treatment on 5/21. Friends of Hudson Youth has been assisting the City of Hudson with Water Quality Improvements at Oakdale Lake. That includes periodic treatments of Cutrine, a non-toxic algaecide that is completely safe for domestic pets, fish in the lake, and humans. This is because in 2024 we had a harmful algae bloom which is dangerous to humans and potentially lethal for dogs and we are trying to prevent a recurrence. The Cutrine also reduces the quantity of harmless but sometimes unpleasant algae in the swim area.

These treatments are done following all DEC permitting requirements and signage is in place during treatments as required by New York State.

We apologize for not having more information posted at the lake, and understand that some folks were alarmed. Rest assured that the lake is safe for you and your furry friends and we will be posting additional information at the lake soon.
