This past Tuesday members of the Greenport Fire Department participated in a joint water operations training at the Oakdale Park in Hudson. We were joined by members of the West Ghent Volunteer Fire Company Inc. and their tanker.

New and experienced members trained on utilizing portable ponds, dry hydrants, and drafting to obtain and maintain a water source. This training is important for emergencies that occur in areas of our town and neighboring jurisdictions with no hydrants and limited water sources.

Thank you to West Ghent for joining us in this training, along with supplying an additional tanker and portable pond to make this training work.

Earlier today, Lt. Gambino and FF Shook brought Tower 24-54 to the Greenport Rescue Squad.

Members assisted with replacing the wind cone on top of their building, which helps indicate wind direction for incoming LifeNet helicopters.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist and work alongside the providers at GRS.
