Our Story
The Wisconsin Campus of Carpenter Nature Center is a 301-acre preserve located south of the city of Hudson, WI. The property is currently used for low-impact outdoor recreation, environmental education, habitat restoration, research and environmental monitoring. The majority of the property is part of the DNR Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program which helps non-profits protect land and water resources throughout Wisconsin.
Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center’s mission is to “foster a lifelong appreciation of the natural world through environmental education, habitat conservation and outdoor experiences”. We work to accomplish our mission by providing access to four miles of maintained trails, free of charge, as well as research opportunities, internships, public programming and environmental education for school-aged children throughout the St. Croix River Valley. In conjunction with our main campus in Hastings, Minnesota, we reach 7,000-10,000 students each year. We believe a hands-on educational experience shows students the importance of working in harmony with the natural world, giving them the science skills and experiences they need to begin to understand and solve our future global environmental problems.
