This little gal and her siblings were released today!!!!
At the end of the day... the week.... the months....this is what matters.
Thank you to all those who make this possible. The callers, the rescuers, the transporters, the staff, the volunteers and interns, and those who support us and help us in all the ways that matter.
The first brave possum to leave the "safety box" and her slow cautious steps into a whole new, wide world in the comments. โค๏ธ

This sweet box turtle came in with an injury that needs veterinarian care urgently.
If you could help out, we would be so grateful-as would she.

Our box turtles are decreasing in numbers every year, so saving just one is so important to their survival. Turtles have a rough time in their environment, living their life in the slow lane. They are no match for outrunning that car coming down the highway or dogs chasing them down.

We received a Mississippi Kite several weeks ago who was a bit thin and unable to fly. After gaining weight and practicing laps in an outdoor enclosure he was finally released today!

This is a big part in thanks to all of our supporters! Whether it be monetary donations, supplies, volunteering at the facility, or assisting with transportation we could not care for all of our patients without your support. Thank you and enjoy watching this happy guy flying to freedom!

๐Ÿพ A huge THANK YOU to everyone who responded to our recent supply request! We put out the call for puppy pads and paper towels โ€” and you all delivered in the best way, including with some additions from our wishlist. ๐Ÿ™Œ

These everyday items are absolute essentials in wildlife rehab, and your generosity means our patients have clean, comfortable space to heal. We couldnโ€™t do this work without this incredible community behind us. ๐Ÿ’š

At the beautiful ECU campus this morning releasing this adorable barred owl back into his territory. This guy has spent a little while with us completing his rehabilitation. ... but before that... he was picked up by a good Samaritan. And taken to a local veterinarian office... who then contacted us after arranging transport. It was an awesome event of combined teamwork, making his second chance possible!! We would like to thank all HOO made this possible, including our wonderful rehab staff here at the sanctuary.

We cannot stress enough that glue traps catch more than mice!!! Repiles such as anoles and snakes get trapped. Songbirds fall victim to them also when bugs are unable to escape.
This young eastern ratsnake was caught up in one, thankfully she was rescued sucessfully and transported to us for care.
Even owls and Hawks can get tangled in the sticky mess when they see the smaller animals as"easy prey" . Glue traps often lead to the most inhumane way our wildlife dies.
Ratsnakes are nature's rodenticide!!! Please keep them safe as they conduct their mission as nature intended. This gal will be rehydrated, given a few days to rest and recooperate then released back out into the wild. โค๏ธ

Baby season is in full swing, and that means LOTS of dishes are being used daily.

If any of our volunteers are looking for something to do this afternoon, we have an overwhelming amount of dishes needing to be washed! Weโ€™re running low on clean dishes and would be so grateful for the help!

๐ŸŒŸ Please give some big congratulations to Micah โ€” our 2025 Volunteer of the Year! ๐ŸŒŸ

Micah has given so much of his time, heart, and energy to the animals in our care, as well as always being a bright beacon of light and positivity. Heโ€™s always willing to assist where needed, even stepping into leadership roles like leading our volunteer orientation. And he never misses a chance to share fun facts and fascinating insights about unique animal traits that spark conversation and creative thinking in everyone around him!

This recognition is so well deserved, but the good news doesnโ€™t stop there โ€” Micah has also been honored with the United Way Onslow Golden Rule Award for Volunteerism, recognizing his incredible impact beyond our walls as well.

Micah, thank you for everything you do. We are lucky to have you! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š
