5/24/2026. 0502 hours

Howell Area Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Structure Fire. Upon arrival crews found a fully involved residence. Crews were on scene for multiple hours. HAFD was assisted by Hartland, Brighton, Fowlerville, Putnam, Argentine and Burns Twp. Fire Departments. Also assisting were Livingston County EMS and Sheriff Dept. along with DART Team. Last evening crews from Howell Area Fire Department gathered for Extrication Training. Members performed practical tasks of removing doors, roofs, windows, dashboard displacement. Each Station was assigned a vehicle and completed given tasks allowing each member to gain valuable hands on time with equipment. Stay Safe.

4/25/2026. 1220 hours

Howell Area Fire Dept. along with Mutual Aid from Hartland Fire, responded to a Structure Fire. Upon arrival crews found a working chimney fire. Crews made a quick stop and cleared the scene. Nice work by all involved crews. Stay Safe.

2/18/2026 1900 - 2100 hours

Tonight at training crews covered the topic of water extinguishers, their uses, maintainance and practical exercises. One exercise was a two part team building exercise. First each station had to build a pinewood derby car and then crews had to perform in a relay race using the water extinguisher to propel the derby car through the course. Fun was had by all and bragging rights secured by Station 23 !

Howell Area Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Structure Fire in the downtown area. Crews arrived to find a working Fire in a two story residential home. Also on scene were Howell Police and Livingston County EMS.

It is with a very saddened heart that we announce the passing of Fire Chief Jim Reed ( Ret. ). Chief Reed was a great leader, mentor, and more importantly, friend. His smile, quick wit, and laughter will not be forgotten. Rest easy Chief, rest easy.

Last evening Station 23 members trained with members from Fowlerville Firefighters, Unadilla Township Fire Department and Putnam Township Fire Department on Water Supply Operations.

Livingston County Fire Departments work together under a strong AMA ( Automatic Mutual Aid ) agreement. Being able to train together allows us to become familiar with one another's apparatus, tactics, and members. It's always a pleasure to train together.
