Steve was a founding member of our Honor Guard-he served it with pride and humility-and now it is our turn to do the same for him. We will miss you Steve.

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lieutenant Steve Moor.

Lt. Moor had a total of 45 years in the fire service, and 13 of those years were with the Howell Area Fire Department. He helped countless amounts of people throughout our community during his many years of service. He did not serve to boast or to brag, he did it because he loved the job, and cared about our community and helping others. Lt. Moor was highly respected in our field, and will be greatly missed.

He will always be remembered as a hard worker, a leader, a teacher, a comedian, and an amaizing firefighter. He never failed to put a smile on your face by telling stories or cracking a quick joke. He impacted the lives of so many. Steve was a friend to many, and will be missed by all.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Moor family during this very difficult time.

Rest easy brother, We’ll take it from here.

A seriously big thanks to all of those that donated in Jay’s memory-really shows the reach he had!

Sad news-a favorite around the stations…

It is with heavy hearts that we share the following information with our community. Captain Jay Hickman was called home yesterday evening. While living a life dedicated to the service of his community, friends and family. Captain Hickman served over 55 years in the fire service. Even in his recent retirement from Howell Area Fire Department Jay had a known presence throughout the area departments and remained active by often stopping by and checking in on his fellow firefighters and their families. Captain Hickman was with Ypsilanti Township Fire Department for 30 years and came to Howell Fire in 1994. Jay has always shared great stories with his fellow firefighters of his experiences during his time in the fire service. He served as a member of the Critical Incident Stress Management team helping others work through difficult calls and times in their lives. Jay has been a strong role model for many new recruits throughout the years. We could definitely use your guidance and kind words today Sir. Now is your time to rest, we have the watch from here Captain. Put a good word in for us when we are called home Chaplain.

Please join friends and family of
Jay Hickman in celebration of Life.

It has been a long time since the last post...there has been some technical difficulties...and a pandemic...but Chief Schroeder was a staple of the county and he will be truly missed.

It is with great sadness that UTFD announces the passing of Retired Fire Chief Mark Schroeder.

Chief Schroeder dedicated most of his 57 years to Unadilla Township and it’s surrounding communities, and served as its Chief for many, many years.

Godspeed sir, as you enter those pearly gates and celebrate the reunion with your beloved Suzie. You will be missed by many.

Instead of posting a photo of the Twin Towers burning on Sept. 11, 2001, we wanted to share this photo of the Tower of Voices at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Somerset County. Standing 93 feet high, it features a wind chime for each of the 40 individuals who died on Flight 93 when the hijacked plane crashed in the field on that fateful day. It's often quite windy there at the 2,200-acre park and the sound of those wind chimes is breathtakingly beautiful. If you have a chance, visit the Flight 93 Memorial and never forget what happened on that tragic day.
