Howe Volunteer Fire Department Howe Volunteer Fire Department is located in Howe, IN. Howe Fire Rescue protects 4,500 residents and 64 square miles including 10 miles of I-80.

The town of Howe is located 50 miles east of South Bend along I-80 and the Michigan state border in Northern LaGrange County. Established in 1938, this all-volunteer department includes 28 personnel who provide Fire, Rescue and medical first-responder protection from their downtown station. EMS is provided by LaGrange County EMS.

Congratulations to Adam Sturgill on his first official rescue! It may have been a four-legged citizen instead of a two-legged one, but this little guy was more than happy to accept a VIP ride back to the station in the fire truck.

After some tail wags, a little station hospitality, and probably a full inspection of the truck for snacks, Ark arrived to pick him up and reunite him with his owner. Safe to say the pup enjoyed his “ruff” day on duty with the crew. 🐾🚒

April has almost come and gone—hard to believe! During this month, we had three firefighters celebrating birthdays, and we want to take a moment to recognize each of them.

We’ll go youngest to oldest…

First, happy early birthday to our current Chief, Joshua Sturgill! His special day is April 24th.

Next, we want to wish Justin Sturgill a very happy birthday today, April 21st!

And finally, a belated happy birthday to Chief Larry Watson, who celebrated on April 13th.

Each of these men has given so much to our community. They bring a wealth of knowledge, dedication, and experience to everything they do.

We are truly thankful for their years of service. Please join us in wishing them all a very happy birthday!
