TRASH NOTES: You are allowed 95 gallons of trash each week. Each extra dumpster or can of trash left out will be charged $10 extra on your utility bill.
Trash must be bagged and in a container with a lid (not 55 gallon drums) that the workers can lift or they need to be compatible with the trash truck's cart tipper. You are allowed 95 gallons per weekly pickup on Thursday mornings. You may use regular 30 gallon trashcans as long as the total quantity is not over 95 gallons.
If you leave bags out without a container and the bag tears when the workers pick it up or if an animal opens it to scatter trash, you are responsible to clean it up, not the trash service.
The trash must be at the edge of the street, the workers don't have time to venture into the yard or up the driveway.

You can purchase dumpsters from the trash service for $80 by calling 620-647-6030, or you can get your own containers with lids, up to 95 gallon total that can be lifted by one person or are compatible with the mechanical cart tipper.
Call the office with questions. There are nearly 30 residences who will have the extra $10 charge added to their bills.

9/10/26 Just a note that there have been a few sightings of rattle snakes in the last few days in the South West part of town. Not to make anyone panic, just be aware of your surroundings. No person has been bitten that we know of, but one dog did get bit and is recovering.

In case of rain they will relocate the program to the Methodist Church across the street.

We have received a few comments about the 1% CITY sales tax that will be on the November ballot. This is a simplified explanation.
This is NOT a new tax nor an increase. If approved, it will continue the 1% tax that passed in 2016 and is specified for city streets in Howard. The tax has to be voted on every 10 years.

When choosing how to vote, please consider that this 1% sales tax revenue is how the City pays for the street resurfacing projects we've been doing. The money received only covers a certain amount of blocks each year so the City Council works to prioritize blocks while considering a lot of factors including traffic, condition, number of homes affected, costs of the resurfacing that year, etc.

We can't promise that your street will be done in a certain year, but we do keep a list of blocks suggested by the public to be considered by Council for the next project.
The City does take requests for minor street repairs and maintenance (potholes, etc.) and tries to address those as possible. To request that, come in to the office and fill out a request.
