This is a valuable resource if you or someone you know needs the qualifications for a free portable AC unit.

Sharing information regarding free AC units being provided by Alejandra Salinas and Commissioner Rodney Ellis hosting an A/C Unit Giveaway providing 125 free portable air conditioning units.

Qualifying individuals and households must be Houston residents and meet one of the criteria below:
Seniors (age 60+)
Low-income households
Disabled veterans
Individuals with disabilities
Families facing financial hardship (evaluated on a case-by-case basis)
Proof of eligibility for any category may be required.

Residents may apply for a free portable A/C unit following the link HERE. The deadline for applications will be on August 31, 2026 or once the maximum capacity is reached.
**Please note: submission of the application does NOT guarantee approval or receipt of an A/C unit
**ONLY one unit per household
Selected recipients will receive distribution details to include the date, time, and pick-up location
