The Landing - Houston

The Landing - Houston The Landing is a nonprofit serving survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation The Landing grew in services, partners, and impact.

The Landing started as a dream to reach survivors who were slipping through the cracks. Inspired by their faith, our founders desired to increase victim identification and connect more victims with support and services. Their hope was to create a safe space for survivors, regardless of whether they are ready to leave their situation. In January 2016, we opened our doors as the first and only drop-

in center for trafficking survivors in Houston. We were amazed by the community response, and in our first three years we served over 500 survivors! We sought new ways to reach survivors—through outreach to the Bissonnet Track, at court, in prison, and among at-risk populations throughout Houston. We also began educating the community through presentations to churches, schools, and businesses. One of the most pressing needs we saw in Houston was more support for younger victims of sex trafficking. In response, we launched our youth advocacy program in 2020 to encourage healing, empowerment, and self-sufficiency in sexually exploited children and youth. As we grow and serve more survivors, our aim ultimately is to love people the way Jesus does. We seek to meet people where they are, honor their inherent dignity and worth, and walk alongside them on their journey.

The past month at The Landing has been filled with so many meaningful moments and stories of transformation. From large events designed to meet our clients' needs to quiet, personal moments shared one-on-one with the survivors we serve, our team has witnessed so many reminders of the hope and healing taking place every day.

💜 Below is just one of many reflections that Casey, one of our Case Managers, recently shared with the rest of our team:

--

I have worked with a client for over a year who was deeply concerned about her teenage son. He felt lost and believed he was not going anywhere in life.

My husband serves as the Trade Program Director for a youth ministry not far from where the family lives. I encouraged my client to take her son to the community center where my husband works. She followed through, and her son quickly connected with my husband as a mentor.

Through the program, he gave his life to Christ, was baptized by my husband, and successfully completed the trade training program.

He is now working toward earning his GED so that he can begin an apprenticeship and pursue a career as a plumber. It has been a blessing to watch him discover hope, purpose, and a new direction for his future.

This touched my heart because our clients are not the only ones affected by their circumstances—their children are deeply affected as well.

This young man has such a hunger for Christ. He simply needed a positive male role model in his life, along with encouragement and direction. Now that he has received that support, he has truly taken off and is building a brighter future for himself.

"Since joining The Landing last June, I have had the privilege of seeing this work up close every day. What stands out the most to me is the courage I get to witness—both in the survivors we serve and in the community that surrounds them."

Here are a few glimpses into the work currently happening, including two powerful real-life stories from our clients:

This summer, The Landing was awarded $96,000 from the City of Houston to provide rental assistance and emergency hotel placements for survivors experiencing housing instability.

For survivors of human trafficking, housing instability can increase vulnerability to exploitation and make it harder to maintain safety and independence.

We are deeply grateful for our long-standing partnership with the City of Houston’s Office of Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence within the Department of Neighborhoods. Their continued trust and investment in The Landing make it possible for us to meet survivors where they are and provide practical support when it is needed most.

Through this partnership, survivors can receive up to three months of emergency rental assistance, as well as immediate, short-term hotel stays when they are facing a housing crisis. By the end of the grant period, we expect to support at least 60 survivors—helping them remain safely housed, navigate moments of crisis, and move toward greater long-term stability. 💜

We are incredibly grateful to The Gates Family Trust, our Presenting Sponsor for the Renewed Gala coming up on September 18th! 💜

Their generous support is a huge part of what's making this milestone evening possible as we celebrate ten years of The Landing and look ahead to the work still to come over the next ten. Partners like this make it possible for us to continue walking alongside survivors with the resources, care, and support they need to find healing and pursue their goals.

There’s still an opportunity for YOU to join us in laying the foundation for the next decade of impact here in Houston.

Our goal by the end of Renewed is to raise $500,000, and we’re already more than halfway there! Every gift helps move us closer to that goal and strengthens our ability to serve survivors in the year ahead.

Will you help us close the gap? Together, we can make Renewed a launchpad for the next ten years of supporting survivors: https://app.betterunite.com/thelanding-2026renewedgala

"As we celebrate 10 years of The Landing, and I reflect on one year of leading this incredible team, we’re inviting you to take a closer look at what your support has helped us achieve over the past year.

In the first half of 2026 alone, we have equipped survivors with over 480 hours of trauma-informed counseling, 17,369 moments of care, and 1,646 case management connections. Through our three programs—the Drop-In Center, Youth Advocacy, and direct survivor and community outreach—we’ve continued to meet immediate needs, build relationships, and create pathways toward long-term healing and stability."

Here are a few glimpses into the work currently happening across each of these programs, including two powerful real-life stories from our clients: https://thelanding.org/blog/recent-impact/

Meet Tamarah! 💜

Tamarah has been a valued member of our Youth Advocacy team for nearly a year. Known to many as “Tee,” she has a gift for making every young person feel seen, heard, and valued. Her nurturing spirit and fun, welcoming personality help youth feel safe, build trust, and know they always have someone in their corner.

Tamarah consistently balances encouragement with accountability, helping youth navigate challenges while celebrating their successes.

One example is her recent work with a young single mother, whom she has supported through parenthood, connected with valuable community resources, and encouraged as she enrolled in community college. Through consistent encouragement and advocacy, she has empowered this young mom to build a stronger foundation for her family's future.

We are so grateful to have you on the team, Tamarah! 🙌

Every day, people in our city—and all around the world—are forced into lives they did not choose. Lives marked by exploitation and abuse.

You’ve certainly heard the term 'human trafficking' before, but many people do not have a clear picture of what this issue actually looks like in real life.

There are many misconceptions surrounding human trafficking. Part of the reason why is that this issue is often hidden in the dark.

However, without true awareness, we cannot take meaningful steps to protect vulnerable individuals. When we know better, we are better equipped to offer the informed, compassionate support survivors need as they rebuild their futures.

To help shed some light on this issue, we are highlighting 7 statistics that illustrate the realities of human trafficking—not just on a global level, but right here in our city: https://thelanding.org/blog/human-trafficking-statistics/

The Landing is one part of a much larger community of people willing to stand in the gap.

This photo was taken at FBI Houston Citizens Academy's World Day Against Trafficking in Persons event honoring the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and the partners working together to combat trafficking, including representatives from the FBI, HPD, HCSO, NCMEC, Office of The Governor, and Crime Stoppers.

Survivors should never have to navigate their journey alone. It takes compassionate people, trusted partners, churches, organizations, and an entire community committed to creating pathways to safety, healing, and hope.

76%. That's the percentage of federally-prosecuted trafficking cases in Texas that are classified as trafficking of a minor.

National data shows that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys experience s*xual abuse before the age of 18. Survivors of child s*xual abuse are significantly more vulnerable to exploitation later in life.

Here in Texas, one of the top states for reported human trafficking cases, the risk isn’t distant. It’s in our communities, our schools, our businesses, and our neighborhoods.

That’s why we created our Youth Advocacy program: a dedicated initiative to support children and teens impacted by human trafficking.

Our Advocates respond 24/7, and are there to walk alongside youth throughout the recovery process. Many survivors we’ve worked with were first trafficked as a teenager and it’s estimated that there are 80,000 youth victims of s*x trafficking in Texas.

The need is real. You can make a difference. 💜
