The Landing - Houston The Landing is a nonprofit serving survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation The Landing grew in services, partners, and impact.

The Landing started as a dream to reach survivors who were slipping through the cracks. Inspired by their faith, our founders desired to increase victim identification and connect more victims with support and services. Their hope was to create a safe space for survivors, regardless of whether they are ready to leave their situation. In January 2016, we opened our doors as the first and only drop-in center for trafficking survivors in Houston. We were amazed by the community response, and in our first three years we served over 500 survivors! We sought new ways to reach survivors—through outreach to the Bissonnet Track, at court, in prison, and among at-risk populations throughout Houston. We also began educating the community through presentations to churches, schools, and businesses. One of the most pressing needs we saw in Houston was more support for younger victims of sex trafficking. In response, we launched our youth advocacy program in 2020 to encourage healing, empowerment, and self-sufficiency in sexually exploited children and youth. As we grow and serve more survivors, our aim ultimately is to love people the way Jesus does. We seek to meet people where they are, honor their inherent dignity and worth, and walk alongside them on their journey.

What does Thanksgiving mean to you? 🍂

For many of us, it signifies comfort, joy, and abundance. It’s a time to relax, gather, and enjoy a bountiful feast.

But imagine what Thanksgiving might feel like for a survivor of human trafficking. Many survivors have experienced significant financial hardship, and they may not have a network of local friends or family to lean on for support.

For a survivor who is working to rebuild, the holiday season can bring more stress than excitement. Will they be able to provide a Thanksgiving meal for their family? Will they have the means to create special memories for their children?

This Thanksgiving, we want to help ease those worries. Will you join us?

We are in urgent need of food donations.

Every day, survivors come through our doors, and often, the very first thing they ask for is food.

We always keep food on hand so no one has to go without, but we’re running low on this essential resource. Without additional food donations, we’ll have to redirect funds from other essential services. Will you help us meet this need?

Your church, business, organization, or family can make a huge difference by signing up to provide a home-cooked or catered meal at our Drop-In Center. The energy in our space truly lights up when a hot meal is served, and during this time of year, these moments of nourishment and connection are more important than ever.

We still have many open dates in November and December, and our hope is that every single slot will be filled. We’ve seen our community step up time and time again, and we believe we can make this holiday season a time when local survivors here in Houston don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from.

You care about human trafficking survivors and you want to support them. You want to help them get the practical and emotional resources they need to heal, rebuild, and work towards a better future.

But you also know that discussing human trafficking is very sensitive. The people we work with have had complex, traumatizing experiences that must be handled with care.

At The Landing, we believe that compassion starts with the words we use to talk to and about survivors. We want the words we use to send a message: you are more than the trauma you have experienced. You are worthy of respect and dignity. You are brave. You have what it takes to reclaim your autonomy.

Stories like this—quiet moments of care and connection—happen every day at our Drop-In Center.

It's a place where survivors can feel safe and comfortable as they access the support they need to rebuild. A place where everyone is there to offer them care, and nobody wants anything from them in return.

When a survivor is in crisis, they deserve a safe place to land. A calm, welcoming space where they can take refuge from the outside world, catch their breath, and receive one-on-one support with privacy and dignity.

This is exactly why we're expanding our Drop-In Center. We're growing our space and increasing our capacity to serve more survivors without sacrificing the personalized care and peaceful environment every client deserves.

We're so thankful to our community for making this expansion possible. 💜

October is , and this is an issue that is closely connected to the work we do to support survivors of human trafficking.

One way s*x trafficking can begin is through a false or manipulative romantic relationship. Sometimes called the “Romeo” method, this can involve someone who initially offers love, stability, or support, then uses that trust to exert control.

A person may be experiencing financial hardship, isolation, or a lack of reliable support. A trafficker may exploit those circumstances, gradually creating dependence, cutting off connections with friends and family, or using threats and manipulation to pressure someone into commercial s*xual exploitation.

These situations are not always easy to recognize from the outside. Someone may love the person exploiting them, believe the relationship is normal, or struggle to understand what is happening. Recognizing exploitation can take time, and leaving an abusive or controlling relationship is not always simple or safe.

That’s why education matters. When we understand how manipulation and coercive control can develop, we are better equipped to recognize warning signs, respond without judgment, and help connect people with support.

Together, we raised $515,517 in philanthropic support at The Landing's 10th Anniversary Renewed Gala! 💜

Thanks to more than 420 guests, generous sponsors, donors, and auction contributors, this incredible support included $429,861 in cash contributions and $85,656 in donated goods and services — nearly doubling last year's total. More than $95,000 was raised on gala night alone!

From Tayosha's powerful story of survival, healing, and renewed hope to an incredible live auction that inspired extraordinary generosity, the evening was a beautiful reminder of what happens when a community comes together around a mission that matters.

Most importantly, this generosity means survivors of human trafficking and commercial s*xual exploitation can find a place to belong, access critical resources, receive compassionate care, and take steps toward healing and freedom.

Today, our team is wearing purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

Domestic violence is an issue that's deeply intertwined with human trafficking.

Contrary to popular belief, most human trafficking cases aren't sudden kidnappings by strangers. In many cases, the person exploiting a survivor is someone they know and trust—sometimes a boyfriend, husband, or romantic partner. Threats of harm and physical violence can be used to exert control and coerce survivors into commercial s*x.

Many of the survivors we serve have experienced domestic violence and are still healing from the physical and emotional trauma of that abuse.

This October, let’s stand through awareness and action.

Mental health counseling is one of the most vital and transformative services we provide at The Landing. For a survivor of human trafficking who is processing the trauma of exploitation, learning to feel safe, be vulnerable, and trust again can take time.

This reflection, shared by Sunni Crenshaw, our Youth Advocacy Manager, offers a powerful glimpse into just how meaningful counseling can be for the youth we serve.

At The Landing, our mission extends beyond meeting survivors’ immediate needs. We’re committed to walking alongside them as they heal, rebuild, and move toward a brighter future with hope and dignity.

As we close out our 10th year of service, we’re expanding our work—and one of our top priorities is making mental health support accessible to even more survivors. We’ve seen the difference this care can make, and we’re excited to reach more individuals through this next chapter.
