Over the past year, companies gorged on AI. Google now processes more than 3.2 quadrillion tokens a month, roughly seven times what it handled a year ago. Uber spent its entire 2026 AI budget by April.

Put simply, AI consumption is out of control.

The instinct now is a crash diet: caps, limits, dashboards. But the real fix is deeper โ€“ and simpler.

In his new Fast Company article, Arun Sahu, our head of AI, data and applied intelligence, makes the case that the answer to runaway AI spend isn't using less of it.
