This meeting is an opportunity for Caucus members and community advocates to participate as we consider additional endorsements for the 2026 General Election. Your voice matters in helping shape support for candidates who will champion equality, justice, and the needs of Houston’s LGBTQ+ community.

The Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus stands unequivocally with transgender Texans, including transgender young people who deserve to be welcome, safe, and respected in every part of public life.

After our candidate-screening and endorsement process, the Caucus chose not to endorse Shaun Finnie for U.S. Congress in Texas’ 2nd Congressional District. This was a principled, values-based decision. A candidate who opposes transgender athletes participating in sports consistent with their gender identity—and who advances rhetoric that marginalizes transgender people—does not reflect the values of equality, dignity, safety, and full inclusion that our community deserves.

Transgender people are not political talking points. They are our family, friends, neighbors, students, colleagues, and community members. They deserve the same opportunity as everyone else to participate, belong, compete, and thrive.

We will continue to hold candidates accountable. LGBTQ+ voters deserve leaders who stand with the entire LGBTQ+ community—not only the parts of our community that may be politically convenient.
