A note to CSO K. Holmes!

"it has been a long and wonderful journey working with you, and I truly appreciate everything you have done for me. You have been a great probation officer.

In all honesty, this experience is exactly what I needed. I was going down a seriously bad path, and had I not encountered these legal troubles, I would have never had the opportunity to go to rehabilitation for my addiction or to participate in the IOP. Because of these programs, I can honestly say I have a second chance to live a meaningful life.

I am proud to share that I am now 497 days sober. I can tell you with confidence that I will never go back to my addiction; I am drug-free, alcohol-free, and tobacco-free.

This Women's History Month, the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) recognizes the dedicated women working in community supervision - pretrial, probation, and parole officers at all levels, case managers, and support staff, who serve as vital pillars of rehabilitation and public safety.

Women now constitute over 53% of probation and parole officers in the United States. They bring a unique blend of empathy, resilience, and strength to their roles, which is crucial for reducing recidivism and supporting positive outcomes. Women are natural nurturers and often excel at building trust and fostering supportive environments that help clients navigate challenges and successfully reintegrate into society. Their holistic approach helps transform trauma into opportunities for the nearly four million adults on community supervision in America.

APPA is proud of all individuals who do this often thankless work with passion. This month, we especially celebrate and applaud women around the world who make incredible sacrifices, balancing demanding roles with great personal strength to make a difference every day in community supervision. We hear you and your dedication does not go unnoticed.

Harris County CSCD employees work with many clients who lost their paths in life - many because of addictions to alcohol and/or drugs. People like “L” who we helped get back on track through probation.

My name is L,

My addiction took over my life, and I found that I had no way out. I struggled for more than 10 years trying to figure this out on my own. I couldn’t do it on my own. My life has now changed 100% for the better I realized that during my addiction I had lost, responsibility, courage, honesty, and respect for myself, and everyone around me .I have learned through the process of recovery that I am someone. I have learned patience, and understanding. I no longer do drugs or alcohol or have the urge to do drugs or alcohol.I have recovered myself. And I will continue my recovery for the rest of my life.I would like everyone to know that I couldn’t have done this without the help of my probation officer, Miss Monica Espinoza, and my counselor, Miss Viola Odusote without treatment and my classes that I have received I wouldn’thave made it. I want to thank everyone involved in helping me with my recovery. I am very grateful that the system was there for me and that the treatment was given to me by my judge. I can’t say thank you enough. I love my life now I love myself. I’ve recovered my family ,my children, my career, and I have the treatment to thank. Thank you very much to everyone involved and I am forever grateful. This is my success story thank you.

All CSCD offices will be closed on Monday, January 26th due to the Winter Storm Warning and Hazards. First and foremost, please stay safe and warm!

For clients who have appointments scheduled on Monday, they will be notified by CSS via email and text that their appointments will be moved to virtual appointments.

Obviousy If there are widespread power outages on Monday, instructions will be updated. If power outages are localized to just a few areas and you are impacted, just let your supervisor know.

Please take care of yourself and your family and stay safe.

To CSO Brandy Scott -

Hi. First, off I would like to say I'm blessed, healthy, & sober... I would like to take this time to e-mail you while I have this down time, to thank you, Star Court staff, Judge & of course all my peers & CSO staff for taking the time to help & be a part of my life to get me through this phase of my life & help me add years to my life by overcoming addiction, which was PCP....Although I wasn't at many sober events or meetings, I've never lost focused or hope on maintaining sobriety. Star Court is what help me maintain. Not probation or consequences. I wanted to lead by example instead of talking a good game. I wanted to show & prove to you guys I can do this without being babysat or looked after as if I'm a child....I wanted to challenge myself... & I did. But I want you to know this program does work...look at my history there & look at me now, sir. I'm still working, still attend meetings, I'm still engaged, & I'm sober but I'm happy & enjoying life. You guys have something great within Star Court that reality changed me & I'm not blowing smoke. I'm being honest. I feel like you guy helped saved my life when I was a nobody & couldn't be responsible for make decisions on my own...y’all rode it out with me & didn’t realize the impact all you have made in my life for the better because y'all so busy helping & doing great stuff. I love all of you in Star Court & I see you people as family, not sobriety staff members. I thank you all so much & will continue to keep us in prayer... God bless🤘💯✔😉”
