🕰️ Time for a Time Change! 🇩🇪🇺🇸
Germany’s daylight saving time ends on October 25! Clocks will go back one hour, while Texas will switch back on November 1.
That means the time difference between Germany and Texas will temporarily shrink from seven to six hours. Perfect to keep in mind when planning calls with friends, family, or colleagues across the Atlantic!

🌍 80 Years of the United Nations | United Nations Day
On October 24, 1945, the UN Charter entered into force, marking the beginning of the United Nations. Today, 80 years later, 193 Member States work together to promote peace, security, human rights, and international cooperation.
From major advances in global health through the World Health Organization to humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping missions around the world, the UN continues to play an important role in addressing global challenges.
On United Nations Day, we recognize eight decades of international cooperation and reaffirm the importance of working together for a more peaceful and sustainable future.

🎨 German Expressionism in Little Rock!
Mark Hamer, Honorary Consul of Germany, opened The Age of Anxiety: German Expressionism in Art and Film at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts .
Featuring more than 60 works from the 1920s and 1930s alongside iconic silent films, the exhibition explores how German artists and filmmakers captured the tensions and uncertainties of the postwar era—and created works that continue to inspire today.
Next to Mark Hamer and his wife Fumiko are curator Maximilian Letze, Managing Director of the Institute for Cultural Exchange in Germany, and Dr. Catherine Walworth, AMFA’s Curator of Drawings.
A wonderful celebration of German art and film in Arkansas! Go and experience it, it’s free and runs till January 10.!

🇩🇪 A Look Back at Our Week in Diplomacy
(1) 🌅 A Sunset Cruise with Houston’s Consular Corps
A special evening aboard the *M/V Sam Houston*, enjoying Houston’s skyline and connecting with fellow members of the consular corps.
(2) 🤝 Southwestern Business Conference (BCON)
Bringing together an international mix of companies, business leaders, and experts, BCON explored key industries shaping the future: energy and renewables, data centers and AI, nuclear energy, advanced energy and chemicals, and logistics and supply chains. Consul General Kai Hennig was pleased to join the conference alongside Susanne Cooper, Honorary Consul in New Orleans. Thank, Elisabet & GACC South - German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern US, Inc. for the great organisation.
(3) 🇮🇩 Farewell Luncheon at the Indonesian Consul General’s Residence
Thank you to Consul General Ouriya Ritonga for the warm hospitality and collaboration in Houston. We wish her all the best and every success in her next chapter!
(4) 🎼 Reclaiming the Music of Polish-Jewish Composers
At the Holocaust Museum Houston, a moving program brought the music of Polish-Jewish composers who fled World War II back into the spotlight—a powerful reminder of how music preserves memory, culture, and lives interrupted by history.
(5) 🤝 Luncheon with Texas Secretary of State Robert S. Howden
The Consular Corps of Houston, with Consul General Kai Hennig serving as Dean, welcomed Texas Secretary of State Robert S. Howden for a luncheon celebrating Houston’s international spirit.
The gathering highlighted our shared commitment to strengthening diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between Texas and the countries represented in Houston’s consular community.

Hannah Arendt fled N**i Germany and became one of the most important political thinkers of the modern age.
A Jewish philosopher who escaped an internment camp and arrived in America as a stateless refugee, Arendt wrote profoundly about totalitarianism, power, freedom, and how ordinary people can enable terrible things.
In this installment of Shaping 250 — Faces of the German American Story, we remember Arendt and the enduring relevance of her work. Her story reminds us that freedom requires vigilance—and that those who find refuge can help us better understand how to protect it. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

🇩🇪 Connecting with German-American communities across the country! 🇺🇸
From cultural fairs and entrepreneurship to Porsche enthusiasts and Oktoberfest celebrations, here are a few highlights from recent engagements:
(1) 🌍 Around the World Multicultural Fair | Alamo Colleges District Campus
Around 300 visitors and representatives from 37 countries came together to celebrate cultures from around the world. Germany was represented with food and drink samples, books, postcards, and an interactive display showcasing German inventions.
A special thank-you to Constanze Heitkoetter, Director of the German International School of Texas at Austin, and Dr. Matthias Hofferberth, Professor of Political Science at UT San Antonio, for representing Germany!
(2) 🏎️ Porsche Club of America | Houston
🏎️🇩🇪 The Lone Star Region of the Porsche Club of America celebrated its 65th anniversary with a morning Get-Together at Messina Hof Harvest Green Winery, showcasing an impressive collection of cars and German automotive excellence. Consul Alex Stemmer represented the Consulate General. Thank you to the organizers for a fantastic event!
(3) 📚 Leo Baeck Institute | New York
A valuable exchange at the Leo Baeck Institute, including a meeting with Carol Kahn Strauss, former director of the Institute. Especially in today's challenging times, dialogue and collaboration with Jewish organizations remain essential to preserving history, strengthening understanding, and building connections.
(4) 🚀 German Accelerator | Austin
A fantastic evening at Capital Factory for the German Accelerator's U.S. Startup Pitch Night! Congratulations to Christian Underwood and Strategy FramerAI for winning best pitch. The atmosphere was inspiring, with ambitious founders striving for innovation while fostering a spirit of collaboration.
(5) 🍻 German-Texan Heritage Society Oktoberfest
A wonderful celebration of German culture and heritage at the GTHS Oktoberfest! It was great to see German traditions thriving in Texas and bringing communities together. A big thank-you to Christopher Markley and his entire team for organizing such a fantastic event.

🤠🇩🇪 A journey through Texas history at The George Ranch !
The Consulate General had a fantastic day at The George Ranch, discovering how life in Texas evolved over the centuries. We were fascinated by the historic homes, their wallpapers, and the incredible knowledge and passion of the people who brought the past to life.
🐕 The secret star of the day? Jona, the dog who stole the show during the cowboy demonstration!
A big thank-you to the team for having us. George Ranch is a wonderful place to experience Texas history firsthand—we highly recommend a visit!
