📜 Legends of the Field Artillery: Saint Barbara

As Artillerymen and women, we are a unique breed. We celebrate Saint Barbara. We recognize the devotion and fighting spirit of Molly Pitcher. We recognize our final resting place as Fiddlers Green. We tend to be a little rowdy and our social gatherings are usually the most popular. We are distinct from the other combat arms. Retaining these traditions and practicing them routinely is important so they are never lost or forgotten.

Saint Barbara has come to be regarded as the patroness of those in danger from thunderstorms, fire and explosions, that is, sudden death. Given the questionable reliability of early cannon misfires– muzzle bursts and exploding weapons were not uncommon, it is easy to see why our predecessors sought the protection of Saint Barbara. She has protected us well ever since ⚡🌩️🔥💥

For many, Thanksgiving Day marks the beginning of the holiday season. It is a time when Americans and Texans gather with friends and family to reflect upon the past year with gratitude and look toward the future with hope.

This Thanksgiving Day, CSM and I are extremely grateful for each and every Thunder Soldier and family member. We’re excited to be a part of this team and storied unit, and look forward to working and training with you. We also ask each of you to take a moment to remember everyone deployed, separated from their loved ones, and pray for their safe return. Their sacrifice makes it possible for others to know freedom from oppression and fear and instills hope for the future.

We want you to be safe this holiday weekend. Many are making plans to visit family and friends. If your plans involve driving, make sure your vehicle is prepared for the trip and you are rested and ready for the drive itself. Plan your drive and leave yourself plenty of time to reach your destination and return home safely. If you plan on being outside for an extended time, check the weather forecast -- carry rain gear or dress in layers for cold temperatures. Remember, inclement weather can change traffic and road conditions in seconds -- stay vigilant.

Enjoy your well-deserved time off and we look forward to seeing you in December.

From the first battles of the American Revolution to the conflicts we face today, Service Members past and present have stepped up to protect our Republic, our state, and our local communities. To all those who have served or are currently serving, whether home or abroad, thank you for all you have done and continue to do.
