📢 Announcement of Expanded Screening and Vetting for H-1B and Dependent H-4 Visa Applicants
✨ Effective December 15, the U.S. Department of State will expand its requirement for online presence reviews for all H-1B applicants and their H-4 dependents, in addition to the F, M, and J students and exchange visitors already subject to this screening. According to the announcement, these updates will help consular officers verify petition information and assess eligibility during visa processing.
✨ Key Points from the Announcement:
• Consular officers may use all available publicly posted information, including publicly available social media, to verify information provided in the petition and during the visa application process.
• Applicants should ensure that social media profiles intended for review are set to “public” so they can be accessed by consular officers as part of the vetting process.
• The procedures aim to help officers confirm qualifications, job information, employer details, and other information relevant to visa adjudication.
• The U.S. Department of State reviews all available information during visa screening to identify applicants who may be inadmissible to the United States, including individuals who could pose risks to national security or public safety.
• Thorough vetting is conducted for every visa category, and online presence reviews are already standard for student and exchange visitor classifications.
✨ If you are planning international travel or preparing for a visa appointment, it may be helpful to review your information and documentation in advance.
