Portal Houston is a female reentry initiative actively engaging stakeholders who have a vested interest in the success of women coming home to Houston afer incarceration. Using the model outlined in Report of the Re-entry Policy Council, we have begun the conversations about the particular challenges that women face after incarceration. Our community partnerships identify gaps in services and incr

ease cross-systems accountability. Portal Houston community engagement initiative creates focus groups among service providers of similar interests, forming meaningful alliances. Portal Houston engages in research and conducts community and organizational assessments. Portal Houston begins with pre-release assessments for women inside TX. Comprehensive, strength-based assessments are offered to women returning to the Houston area. Collaborative goals are set between the client and the Portal Advocate who works as a case manager to match her with appropriate support services. Portal Partners receive pre-screened clients, increasing their success rates for programs and services. Working together, Portal Partners are empowering women to help themselves successfully re-integrate into Houston area communities.
