For the past four days, our Rosenberg Police Officers have been hard at work ensuring the safe and steady flow of traffic as thousands of graduates, families, and friends gathered to celebrate Fort Bend ISD graduations at the The Fort Bend County Epicenter.
This morning, around 11:00 AM, as the first ceremony of the final day was letting out, an unrelated commercial vehicle crash occurred on Highway 36 under Highway 59. Officers from our Patrol Division quickly responded to the crash scene while coordinating closely with those already working traffic control at the Epicenter. The crash forced a full closure of Highway 36 for several hours, creating a significant traffic challenge for our community.
With Highway 36 shut down, all traffic was diverted to the southbound frontage road toward Bamore Road, the only available route. This detour funneled directly towards the Epicenter, where guests were leaving the ceremony at the same time. The result was a major convergence of traffic from all directions.
For more than three straight hours, in “feel like” temperatures of 101°, our officers worked tirelessly to direct traffic and keep everyone moving as safely and efficiently as possible around the crash and in and out of the Epicenter for the second ceremony of the day.
We understand the delays were frustrating. Please know if we could have moved traffic any faster, we would have. We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation during a very challenging situation.
Thank you to our officers for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community, even in the toughest conditions. The Texas heat is officially here, and it is no joke.
