On the morning of March 10th, 2025, Mrs. Shynett and her friend were walking on the trail at a local park. Mrs. Shynett suddenly became unresponsive and fell to the concrete into cardiac arrest. Her friend and several bystanders quickly rendered aid by calling 911 and following instructions on how to perform CPR until first responders arrived. Our response partners at Sheldon Community Fire & Rescue arrived initially and began providing care, which included a shock using their AED. Our medic units arrived shortly after, began advanced care, and ultimately achieved a return of pulse on Mrs. Shynett on scene prior to transport.
We now know that Mrs. Shynett had multiple heart vessel blockages, required a quadruple bypass surgery, and she spent 29 days in the hospital. Ten months later, she has a miraculous recovery story to tell. Her words are, “Thank you for using your medical training to save my life. Today I feel amazing.”
Yesterday, our team was extremely honored with the opportunity to reunite with Mrs. Shynett along with her family, friends, fellow first responders, 911 dispatchers from East Harris County Emergency Communications, and hospital partner Memorial Hermann Northeast. The pictures below perfectly illustrate the “chain of survival” in which multiple teams from different organizations worked together with the same goal - to save a life. We are proud of the strong work displayed on this call by all!
