Congratulations to Avik Jotwani on earning an Honorable Mention in the 2026 American Chemical Society Greater Houston Exam competition! This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of his hard work and dedication to chemistry. Special recognition also goes to his AP Chemistry teacher and mentor, Mr. Arredondo, for his guidance and support throughout the process.

We are also proud of the other Carnegie students who participated for the first time this year. Taking on such a challenging and prestigious competition is an accomplishment in itself, and we look forward to seeing even more success from our students in the future.

Thank you, Vivian, for helping make the CVHS campus more bird-friendly! Because birds cannot see glass, window collisions are extremely common in urban environments—especially in Houston, which is considered the second most dangerous city in the United States for migrating birds. Birds that collide with windows often sustain serious injuries that can be fatal.

Vivian’s Stop the Strikes project was created to reduce the number of bird collisions occurring at the high-strike second-floor conference room windows. This past summer, she installed bird-safe window clings designed to make the glass visible to migrating birds. Since the installation, there have been no reported bird strikes at these windows throughout both the fall and spring migration seasons.

From community surveys to city recognition 🎉 Tyler Morosan’s research on the economic and social impact of Bell Park in Houston’s Museum District is already making a difference. Working alongside a student from Post Oak High School and advisors from Rice University, Tyler helped gather stories and data from community members to better understand the park’s impact on everyday life.

The project has gained attention from KPRC, with a documentary coming this summer, and the City of Houston recognized the team with certificates honoring their work. We are proud to see students using research to create meaningful community impact! 👏
