The Beacon (Houston)

The Beacon (Houston) Through its core programs, The Beacon provides essential services such as hot meals, showers and laundry five days a week.

The organization also offers next-step services to help individuals resolve from experiencing homelessness. The Beacon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the heart of downtown Houston. The core programs of The Beacon provide essential and next-step services to empower individuals and engage them in recovery from a life on the streets. The Beacon's core programs:
- Day Center
- Beac

on Law
- Brigid’s Hope at The Beacon
- COMPASS

Through these programs The Beacon addresses hunger, health, hygiene, employment, legal issues and housing instability. In 2014, The Beacon aligned with the Coalition for the Homeless-Houston/Harris County Continuum of Care initiative known as The Way Home. The goal of the The Way Home is to change the path for Houston’s homeless by creating permanent supportive housing units and implementing a coordinated intake, assessment and triage system for those in need.

Earlier this week, we gathered with some of the most dedicated, big-hearted people we know — and we are still feeling the energy.

At our "Evening with The Beacon" reception, we had the chance to share the story of the Beacon, celebrate the work our team does every single day, and look ahead to the future of this mission. Hearing from our CEO, Ana, and our Board leadership about why this work matters — and why now matters — reminded us of exactly why we do what we do.

To everyone who joined us: thank you. Your presence, your support, and your belief in this community means more than we can say.

Want to get involved? Whether you're interested in attending Come to the Table, volunteering, or learning more about other ways to support the Beacon — we'd love to connect. Drop a comment, send us a message, or visit www.beaconhomeless.org.

Sometimes a fresh start begins with the right support at the right time.

After experiencing housing instability, “Cassandra” connected with The Beacon’s Day 1 Diversion program, where staff worked alongside her on case management, budgeting, document gathering, and employment support. Through determination and months of hard work, Cassandra secured employment and took important steps toward rebuilding stability for herself and her family.

Today, Cassandra has moved into her own permanent home through HUD supported housing. The relief of finally having a safe and stable place to call home marked the beginning of a hopeful new chapter.

We’re honored to walk alongside clients like Cassandra on their journey toward stability.

Our REACH classes are one of the many ways we partner with community organizations to create connections and support for the individuals we serve.

REACH stands for Recreation, Engagement, and Activities for Community Health. This 10-week curriculum promotes wellness and social engagement for our Day Center clients. These classes were developed and are being facilitated by a University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Occupational Therapy Doctoral Student in partnership with one of our Pathways Team members, who is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate.

Each week, we are thrilled to see the engagement and growth of our clients thanks to REACH!

This weekend, our Brigid’s Hope participants crossed the finish line at the Sprint for Life 5K 🏃‍♀️

Benefiting ovarian cancer research and honoring survivors, this event was a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience in our community. We are so proud of our mentors, staff, and participants for their commitment to preparing for this special day.

The Brigid’s Hope program is designed to support participants through empowerment that goes beyond the classroom. From mentorship sessions focused on mental health and nutrition to practice walks alongside the women in our cohort, every step reflected our holistic approach to supporting each participant’s journey.

Congratulations to everyone who participated; your dedication and perseverance inspire us all!

When Jerry first came to The Beacon, he was navigating homelessness, health challenges, and uncertainty. Today, he’s housed and rebuilding with strength, perseverance, and hope.

We’re honored to share Jerry’s story, with his permission, in our 2025 Gratitude Report to be published later this month. Jerry hopes his experience encourages others facing similar challenges to keep going and reach out for support. We’re grateful for the community that helps make journeys like his possible.
