The Beacon (Houston) Through its core programs, The Beacon provides essential services such as hot meals, showers and laundry five days a week.

The organization also offers next-step services to help individuals resolve from experiencing homelessness. The Beacon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the heart of downtown Houston. The core programs of The Beacon provide essential and next-step services to empower individuals and engage them in recovery from a life on the streets. The Beacon's core programs:

on Law
- Brigid’s Hope at The Beacon
- COMPASS

Through these programs The Beacon addresses hunger, health, hygiene, employment, legal issues and housing instability. In 2014, The Beacon aligned with the Coalition for the Homeless-Houston/Harris County Continuum of Care initiative known as The Way Home. The goal of the The Way Home is to change the path for Houston’s homeless by creating permanent supportive housing units and implementing a coordinated intake, assessment and triage system for those in need.

This month, the Harris County Clerk's Office voter education team joined us at The Beacon to educate our clients about the voting process. The team registered around 20 clients, many of whom shared that they now feel more confident about how voting works and how to use the voting machines. Others told us they had never voted before simply because they weren't sure how the process worked.

Our team loved watching clients build confidence through this education, and many are now looking forward to participating in upcoming elections!

This week, two members of The Beacon's leadership team - Stephanie Truong (Chief Program Officer) and Lori Stokey (Data & Compliance Associate) attended their first session of United Way of Greater Houston's Coffee and Quality Fellows Program!

The fellowship helps participants strengthen their organization's data and evaluation practices, with a focus on building sustainable strategies to get more insight from data they already collect. We are thankful to United Way of Greater Houston for this opportunity!

We are excited to see our team grow through this opportunity, continuing our commitment to innovation and evidence-based practices to sustain The Beacon's mission in the long term.

Beacon Law is proud to have recently participated in the Statewide Expunction Clinic Day, welcoming community members to The Beacon for free legal assistance.

As part of Clear Path Texas, the statewide initiative helps eligible Texans clear or seal their criminal records, removing barriers that can stand in the way of employment, housing, education, and other opportunities.

During our clinic day, two Beacon Law staff attorneys and our intern welcomed 18 attendees and received 10 applications for assistance.

We’re grateful to be part of this statewide effort to remove barriers, open doors, and create opportunities for people to move forward!
