Other government agencies are also moving away from paper checks. The Social Security Administration has warned claimants still receiving their benefits via paper checks that their benefits could be disrupted.

The IRS Tax Withholding Estimator now includes changes for credits and deductions allowable under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill. This includes no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, deductions for seniors and other OBBB tax benefits.

Businesses and individual taxpayers can use the tool to determine withholding adjustment needs based on multiple jobs, income and dependent information provided. Taxpayers can access the tool without login requirements or providing personally identifiable information.

Taxpayers are encouraged to use the tool if they experienced any of the following: more than one job or working spouse, major life changes, claims of certain credits, itemized deductions, receipt of income with no tax withheld or owe taxes or receipt of larger than expected refund during most recent filing season.

The tool also helps taxpayers complete the new Form W-4, Employee's Withholding Certificate or Form W-4P, Withholding Certificate for Periodic Pension or Annuity Payments to submit to their employer or pension provider if changes are recommended.

New and enhanced deductions for individuals

There are several new tax deductions that have been introduced for the 2026 filing season. A deduction is an amount subtracted from the taxpayer’s income when filing. Deductions lower the taxable income resulting in lowering the federal income tax obligation.

New deductions for 2026 filing season

Seniors age 65 and older may be eligible to claim an additional $6,000 deduction
Tipped workers may be eligible to deduct up to $25,000 for qualified tips
Individuals may be eligible to deduct up to $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers) for qualified overtime
Individuals may deduct up to $10,000 in qualified passenger vehicle loan interest
All new or enhanced deductions are available for both itemizing and non-itemizing taxpayers. Each of these deductions phase out based on income level for individual and joint filers and have specific eligibility requirements. If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit and are wondering where your refund is, don’t panic. You can expect to get your refund by March 3 if:

• You filed your return online
• You chose to get your refund by direct deposit
• We found no issues with your return

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recognizes that obesity is a disease, and certain expenses related to obesity treatments can qualify as tax-deductible medical expenses.According to IRS guidelines, eligible expenses may include: Doctor visits, nutritional counseling, bariateic surgery, Prescription medications for obesity. Only unreimbursed out of pocket medical expenses (expenses not covered by your insurance) can be tax deductible.
This is important as many insurances don't cover out of network obesity doctors nor obesity medications.

To qualify for the medical tax deduction, you must satisfy the necessary criteria set by the IRS. One of the most important requirements is that the cost of medical care should be more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). For instance, if your income is $60,000, your obesity medical expenses should be more than $4,500, 7.5% of $60,000, to qualify for a tax deduction.

Box 14 on ur w2 that says OTP is the overtime premium amount you worked for the year that is able to be claimed per OBBB.

If you worked OT and it isnt in box 14, ur last check stub is needed to calculate what you qualify for.

Taxpayers are starting to receive their 2025 tax documents, such as W-2s, Forms 1099 or other income documents. People who sold or disposed of digital assets using a broker might receive a new Form 1099-DA from those brokers.

Examples of digital assets include

Convertible virtual currencies and cryptocurrencies such as :
Bitcoin
Stablecoins
Nonfungible tokens

Brokers must send taxpayers a copy of the same information they report to the IRS on Form 1099-DA by Feb. 17,2026. These are different from some other tax statements taxpayers may receive.

Most of these statements will not include the basis for DA transactions in 2025 and taxpayers will have to calculate basis to determine their gain or loss.
