This evening our community and friends mourn the death and passing of Civil Rights Icon John Robert Lewis. Words cannot express the depth of our loss and deepest of sympathy. We are incredibly thankful to our creator for having shared John Robert Lewis with us for 80 years and allowing us to witness the work, activism, teachings and social disciplines of the civil rights movement... As well, we are incredibly honored and thankful to have had Congressman John Lewis to recently serve as parade grand marshal during the 41st Original MLK Parade here in Houston. We love you John Robert Lewis, Rest In Peace.

The Black Heritage Society is very fortunate and thankful to have known and witnessed the work and wisdom of Keith. Just his presence alone sometimes of just being in the room provided a sense of fairness that were to be had in terms of finality. Again, our community will greatly MISS having Keith's presence in the ROOM. Rest In Peace.
