Congrats to Team Berg! Riding again for USD Group, Stuart, Garret and Grant made this their 6th year to ride for Multiple Sclerosis in the annual MS150 trek from Houston to Austin. I'm very proud of you all!!

I'm surrounded by a sea of red as I awarded a trophy to the Speech Pathology students at the University of Houston for winning the greatest participation at February 20 TSHA Day at the Capitol! The Houston Cougars rocked today!!

Party with your boots on!! It's that time again--the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is pulling out all the stops again. If you're there Tuesday night, try looking for our precious neighbor, Abby Douglas, competing in the calf scramble! Go, Abby!!

Time out and away to fly to Missouri to help Dad and Mom through post-surgery recovery. Coming back through Springfield, Missouri gave us time to sink down for great visits with more family there. Stuart's sister, Janet, works on the front lines of the alternatives to abortion movement at one of the nation's most innovative and recognized pregnancy care centers. She showed us around the center, introducing us to director, Cindi Boston. Thank you, ladies, for your pro-life hearts and commitment!

Men and women of exceptional caliber.

I paid tribute to one such group on Veterans Day as they are our present-day heroes. Much of their character -and the character of this nation - is owed to another group having exceptional caliber - the men and women we know as Pilgrims. They are the same men and women who left everything they knew, all the comforts of home, all those they knew, to head to a wild and untamed land, not knowing what they would find. After facing hardship, they made the choice to being grateful for all they had. They thanked God for getting them through the trials of forging a new life in an unforgiving land.

Pause with me this Thanksgiving to honor these men and women we call Pilgrims and to honor God, the same God who gave them lives in a new land. We've so much to be thankful for!

Twice this month, we pause to honor and celebrate men and women of exceptional caliber--later this month for those who left all to go to a wild and untamed land, not knowing what they would find. We call them Pilgrims. Today we celebrate those who left to wild and untamed lands, knowing exactly what could happen to them. We call them veterans. They are our fathers, brothers, uncles and sisters who have been willing to take up arms to defend a nation and for that we owe them our gratitude. Thank you, Dad, thank you, veterans everywhere.
