The Rice University Police Department (RUPD) is proud to recognize and celebrate the dedication of our Clery Compliance Coordinator, Shelley Godeke, today.

Shelley joined RUPD on July 1, 2025, and in just a few months, she has become an integral part of our team. Her role is vital: she ensures our university meets the requirements of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which promotes transparency and accountability in campus crime reporting.

We are incredibly excited to have Shelley's expertise and commitment to transparency here at Rice. Please join us in thanking Shelley for her tireless work in making the Rice University campus a safer, more informed community!

Please join us for National Night Out (NNO) next Tuesday, October 7th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., outside the Rice University Recreation Center! This is a great way to interact with RUPD and other departments on campus with whom we work closely.

Immediately following NNO, we have partnered with Rice University Housing and Dining for an Owl Safety Walk! Register at NNO to receive a free goodie bag (limited supply)! The walk will begin at 7:00 p.m.

We hope to see you next week for all the festivities! 😊

Today, we lay to rest one of the most beloved members of the Rice University Police Department family—Retired Sergeant Willie Anderson.

Sgt. Anderson was more than just a dedicated officer; he was a kind and compassionate soul whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. For many years, he served the Rice community with unwavering commitment, earning the respect and admiration of students, staff, and faculty alike.

Whether it was offering a reassuring word during a difficult moment or simply sharing his warm smile on patrol, Sgt. Anderson embodied the very best of community policing. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the example he set for all of us.

We are grateful for his service, his friendship, and his heart. Rest in peace, Sgt. Anderson—you will always be remembered.

🕊️💙🙏

During this unprecedented winter storm, Rice University Police Department reminds everyone to stay safe, stay warm, and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. While our officers are hard at work ensuring the safety of our campus community, they're also finding small moments of joy amidst the cold-like Corporal Oliver who took a break to build a snowman!

Let's all take inspiration from this picture: stay vigilant, but don't forget to find a little lightness in the storm. Stay safe, Owls!
