On March 18, there will be a prescribed fire at Witch Dance (Milepost 232–237) in Chickasaw County, MS.

Safety reminders for drivers:

• Slow to 30 mph and turn on headlights
• Watch for smoke, firefighters, and equipment
• Expect smoke to linger for several days
• Trails and pullouts may be closed during burn operations
• If visibility drops below 500 feet (150 meters), park rangers may temporarily stop traffic

Prescribed fires help reduce wildfire risk and support healthy forests and prairies by clearing overgrown vegetation.

Additional prescribed fires may occur throughout the week. Check back here for regular updates.

Chickasaw County E911 is looking to hire part-time dispatcher(s).

Key Responsibilities:
Answer 911 and non-emergency calls, using empathy to calm callers in panic.
Dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, or EMS units to scenes.
Operate CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) systems to track incident details and responder status.
Monitor radio channels and maintain communication with field units.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Must be 18 years old.
Ability to type at least 35 wpm.
Must pass comprehensive background check and drug screening.
Must be able to work 12-hr shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to remain calm and Focused during emergencies. Ability to operate multiple computer screens and radios simultaneously.
Communicate clear verbal and written skills for high-stress, rapid communication.
Work is performed in a 24-hour dispatch center, working closely with Law Enforcement Officers and Fire personnel.
